is my steering wheel straight/alignment?

Hey guys, i have a s4 t2. I have done a few alignments at school about 5 years ago, so I know what the angles are and how to adjust them.

BUT I was curious on how you know your steering wheel is center? After putting my aftermarket wheel on, im not sure if I have it in the right place.

2nd, when I do my alignment, if i have my steering wheel offcenter, its just going to align it straight to where I set my steering wheel?

Im asking because I want to try setting my toe using tape measure in front and in rear of my tires, but I'm not sure how to tell where my steering wheel is straight. I dont want to pay for a full alignment yet because I am waiting on my camber adjustments. Also I just bent my tie rod end, and I'm going to install it. I want it as close to proper alignment because I need to drive the car ,and I wont have time untill the weekend.

Does anyone have a writeup on doing garage alignments to get me in the ballpark range? Thanks for hte help

If you still have the steering lock mechanism intact, just lock the wheel before you start to adjust the alignment.

Im curious though, how do I know where dead center is? Can I mark my wheel, go al the left , mark. Then go all the way right, mark. Is the steering rack supposed to go both ways the same amount?

because of my aftermarket wheel, I'm not sure if my center is correct
