Megan Racing Street Series Coilover Review
Megan Racing Street Series Coilover Review
Hey guys, recently I bought myself a set of Megan Racing Street Series Coilovers. I thought since there are so many questions about these being asked that it would be nice to do a review to give some unbiased information to those interested in these.
Now before we begin I just want to say a few things:
1. This is my first set of coilovers and as such I unfortunately can't compare them with other brands.
2. This is also my first time doing a write-up so I'm sure i'll miss something. If I do feel free to PM me or post in the thread and ill answer any questions I can.
3. Please don’t turn this into a Megan bashing thread. I am simply trying to help those who may be on the fence about these and id rather not every other post be “Megan Racing sucks” etc.
Lets get started!
Product Review/Installation
So after 5+ years my stock front struts finally blew and I had to replace them. After much research on the “budget” coilover brands I decided to go with Megan Racing. I picked these up for about $800 on ebay and a week later they were on my doorstep.

I opened the box and was actually surprised by how little packing there was done.

After thorough inspection of each coilover I came to the conclusion of no damage so I suppose the packing is sufficient. It came with everything needed and nothing was missing. 2X rear coilover, 2x front coilover, hex key and the spanner wrenches as well as the return form if they are damaged and some stickers to put on your car for the brave souls who wish to openly support Megan Racing.

Now it was time to reinspect for quality purposes. First thing I looked at was the welds and I don’t know why. I have no clue what separates a good weld from a bad so if our welders could chime in on this that would be great. From my eye they look solid though.

Next I looked at the camber plates and the damper ****. The damper **** had a firm click when you adjust the setting which is good. I hear with other cheap coilovers the damper adjustment is sloppy and its hard to differentiate between “clicks”. Not much to say about the camber plate I don’t think. Everything was on securely and the camber adjustment nuts were easy to adjust.

I then looked at the springs and perches. Springs are springs but one thing to note is that Megan shipped these preloaded so be sure to adjust that before putting them on.

The perches kind of surprised me because they could go from finger loose to holy hell tight with little effort but I'm sure that’s how they are supposed to be. Other then that they do their job with out fault.

It was was time to get out there and put them on! Installation was not all that hard I did however have an assistant to aid me which did come in handy. Fair warning to all though the bolts that need to come off are going to be very hard to take off if you haven’t messed with them in years so have a lubricant of your choice ready. Once the old struts and shocks come off though the Megans are a breeze to install. You will have to loosen the bottom perch and adjust the ride height if you wish to stay close to stock. This is because they are shipped to lower your car about 2 inches for whatever reason but its easy to adjust so do it as needed(Take measurements!). Other then that everything lines up perfect and I had absolutely no problem getting them on which was a nice change of pace.

First Impressions
I decided to keep ride height stock since my exhaust already scrapes enough as it is. Even on their softest settings these are a fair bit harder then stock so ride quality does go down however no one is buying these for ride comfort id assume. After adjusting them to a slightly harder setting I took my car to some curvy roads and I am amazed at the difference. Everything about the way the car handles is better. I will say to be careful about how hard you set the rear damper though because it does make the car oversteer pretty easily but if your a drift guy then I suppose that's good news. No odd clunks or anything like that to report either.

Afterthoughts/Conclusion
I have been on these for over a month now and still there hasn't been a single problem with these coilovers. The damper ***** have got a little sloppy since I first got them however that’s after many adjustments and there is still that defining click every time you adjust them a level. Overall this is a fine product as it stand now and I would recommend these to any one on a budget but would like a decent set of coilovers.
