how or why stock chrome rims peel from inside?

Question how or why stock chrome rims peel from inside?

Hey fellas i got 4 93 chrome stock rims i had them for a while anyhow i decide to wash and polish them and had put them away. Anyhow i went to check on them and i found inside {back of the rim}where noone see was peeling like if acid was on the rims? I got not clue why that happen anyone care to explain this to me.thanx

There's no such thing as "stock chrome".
Those chrome wheels are all done after they have left the factory.
CRAPPY chrome plating will always peel like that.

i work in a tire shop and i see that kinda stuff all day long. its just the way life is unless its a good name brand aftermarket rim then it might not ever peel but about every dang wheel that is chrome dose it.

RETed - you are wrong. I purchased a set of stock chrome rims off a member of this forum 10 years ago and have them on my car.

chrome does not like to stick to Aluminum.... best you usually get is around 5 years before it stats to erode & peel off.

I've had my stock chrome fd wheels for nearly 7 years and no flaking. They actually look mint but they have been garage kept probably most of its life.
