what is the story with chrome wheels...
Just saw a CYM with Chrome wheels. Same design, (squeeze cast type), but chromed. 1993 catalogue does not make mention of chrome as an option.......what's the story?

i think you're probably talking about polished wheels. the original owner had the stock wheels polished so at first i thought they were chrome but they're just polished.

Didnt know Chrome was an option for FD3S rims.
I just went to a RIM shop and traded my RIMS
for chromed out FD3S rims. for like 600.
IMO: Don't buy chrome rims...
They Peel... regardless of what people tell you.
EVENTUALLY they will peel.Unless your FD3S is
a Garage queen.
I gone thru 2 sets of chrome rims. 2nd set lasted
longer than 1st.
Tips: Do not use any type of CLeaner EVER..
only soap and water. always keep clean.
goodluck

mazda motors of america had some of the fd wheels chromed, so thats why there is no mention of them in the factory catalogs. not to mention the fact that they dont have them as replacements

Ex fd *****
ANY chromed FD wheel was a DEALER / AFTERMAKET option or is a Private owner job - MAZDA (corporate) never offered CHROME wheels as an option on FDs.
Also it is almost imposible to get CHROME to stay on an alloy wheel they will always peel sooner or later. Alloy wheels can be POLISHED just as bright as chrome and the finish will actually be MORE durable than CHROME.

I did a wheel exchange with a place called East Coast Plating. They send you chromed Factory wheels, and you send them your stock wheels in exchange. I think I paid $600 for the swap. You can find them at:

Yeah, I've seen the chromed / polished wheels, but I didn't know they were a dealer option. Anyone know how much extra they charged for them? Does it say on the sales receipt or the window sticker?

Like a couple other people stated.
Chrome (note spelling) WAS NOT a factory option, it was done at an aftermarket wheel chroming place. If the car came new with chrome wheels then the dealer had it done.
Chrome wheels were not a factory option, neither were polished wheels on a FD.

Anyway my old 93 came with stock chrome wheels. I've always hated the stockers, but in chrome I think they look better. With that said, I actually kinda like the wheels your car has. I dunno what it is, because everything about them tells me otherwise but IMO they work. Not that you're asking but if you dropped that car, it be killer.
