How much heat will damage Volk GTU's?
Im lookng at a set of 18x9/18x10 GTU's. one of the front wheels isnt even available. the other front wheel appears to have some discoloration on it. the 2 rears look fine.
I know that volks have a clearcoat on them. i dont know if its an autmotive clearcoat or if its powdercoating. im thinking its an automotive style of clearcoat. if this is the case, i know it doesnt take much heat to yellow/discolor it. ive seen it happen w/ around 200*F, maybe a little more. with this localized discoloratoin, im thinking that the heat wasnt extended or intense. the clearcoat hadnt burned off and it was only on one sectoin. since forged aluminum tends to conduct heat quickly and efficiently, the wheels would have to be in this heat for a while for it to discolore more of the wheel.
can anyone reassure me that my theories are right?
thanks
chris
