Front Brake Rotor thickness

Gday,

just wondering if anyone has ever tried thicker rotors on an FC/FD?

The standard rotors are 22mm thick,
ive come across a 26mm thick rotor which suits my situation..

without spacing out the calipers, can this fit?

Some time spent measuring should give you the answer. You'll need to be sure that there's enough space between the rotor and caliper body on each side, then you'll need to make sure that it's possible to retract the pistons enough so that NEW brake pads can clear the rotors by at least 2mm on each side. Also keep in mind that not all pads are the same thickness.

Racing Brake's two piece stock FD oem replacement rotor is:
2 mm thicker
has directional air cooling vanes
made of a different type of cast iron

Go read the big thread about their kits on this forum.
I have them along with their rear BBK.

yeah thanks for the replies,

i spent all of last night reading all the threads including the 58 pages of the big brake kit one..

i dont have a new set of pads so measuring is difficult, my guess is no, but was wondering if anyone has successfully fitted thicker brake discs..

They appear to be probably the best stock replacement you can buy, but the cost can't be justified IMO. Stock rotors are plenty good for any kind of street application, and if you are tracking you need larger rotors to get all the heat out the directional vanes may help some but they won't do enough for a track application.

If the 26mm will fit with the caliper than you can make the pads fit by wearing them down on the concret in the driveway or sanding them down. It's not the ideal way to do it, but it will work.

Cut-out in a FC caliper is 25mm, doubt very much the FD is different - so no chance. There is a locally available one piece rotor that is inexpensive and has been used with success, requires the spacer mod a la Mandeville.

Racing Brake also makes a cheaper 1 piece front rotor which is also better than OEM.

When making stops from above 100 mph, you will appreciate better brakes!
