VA Coilovers Installed, now looking for spacers.

2 months ago I had coilovers installed.

Absolutely love it.

No complaints at all.

I could have gone with bigger rims but I love the stock rims.

I'm staying with the 16 inch stock rims. Atleast for now.

Need the following question answered please:

Now that the car is lowered the wheels look pushed in.

Has anyone come across this issue before?

I'm thinking about having spacers installed.

Your recommendations please.

Is there any other option besides spacers?

Also had brand news GoodYear Tires installed. 225 - 50Z - R16.

Mahjik and GoodFellas, would really appreciate your input on this.

Thank You.

After coilovers comes alignment.

There will they adjust your camber (which is the wheels pushed in part you're talking about), toe, caster etc etc.

I had the alignment done.

It runs perfect.

The car is perfectly levelled front and back.

I'm going to have to have spacers installed.

Has anyone installed spacers on their RX-7?

Most dont recommend using a slip on spacer over 5mm on stock lugs, and 5mm isnt enough to solve the issue you have. Your options are extended studs or a bolt on spacer. If you go bolt on, Its worth it to spend some extra money on high quality spacers, you can get them custom made to be hub centric and wheel centric. Also, you can fit 245's in the rear on stock wheels without it looking too bad. Try that and save your extra pair of 225's for when your fronts wear out. I run a set of bolt on spacers from www.wheeladapter.com on my G35 and would recommend them, not the cheapest out there but the quality is top notch.

Why not buy a set of used wheels? Will solve your problem and look better in the end, I personally would not run spacers on my car.

==================================

PureRX7, Used wheels? I have 16 inch stock wheels and I want to stay with the stock look.

Do you mean bigger wheels like 18?

Your problem here is the offset of the wheel. I think the stock wheels are like +50 which is way too much for that small of a wheel. (the higher the offset in mm, the farther in the wheel will be).

What you want is a wider wheel with a +35 to +45 spacing depending on how wide...and something bigger than 16 is always nice.

I may have you mixed up with someone else, but don't you have that enormous wing on the back of your car? How worried about keeping the stock look can you be..?

Take off that huge wing then. I think this would be the perfect chance to switch up wheels. I think he means like bigger and wider.

Sweet Raptor Jesus you guys really give him the run-around about using spacers.

Don't let them scare you. Some of the best drifters on the planet use bolt-on spacers all day and night without any problems. Their equipment faces way more stress than driving to grandma's house.

Check my posts and then Rishie's post here for all of the help that you're asking for... https://www.rx7club.com/suspension-wheels-tires-brakes-20/wheel-spacers-fd-849154/

Thank You. Your post was really informative. Really appreciate it.

Now I'm wondering that if I do have spacers installed will there be a vibrations. The reason I am asking is that from the link that you indicated below one of the members does say that if you get spacers installed you will get vibrating sounds.

Also, how safe are these. Lot of time I hit over 90 miles an hour on my FD. And what are the chances of my wheels flying off at those high speeds.

I dont want to end up seriously hurt if these spacers are not safe.

What is the alternative, other than spacers?

Thanks for your insight. Excellent response by the way....

It would run a little over a couple hundred bucks to a few hundred, depending on the brand. you'll have to determine if it's worth it.

Ideally you'd run a 15mm spacer front and a 25mm spacer in the rear. The problem you run in with the stock FD wheel is it will only accomodate a 20mm studded spacer for reasons i have mentioned in the past.

So you can do a 20mm in the front but you might need to do a minor fender mod up front. then get the 25mm in the rear. This will net you an 8" +30 front and 8" +25 rear.

The spacers we offer are hubcentric and therefore should not have any vibration issues.

Problem is we're out of stock on the 20mm right now.

They're super safe as long as you don't buy the no-name eBay Chinese crap. Stick to the brands mentioned in the other thread, make sure they're securely tightened (w/ maybe some threadlock if you're paranoid) and you'll be just fine. Like I said, there are plenty of people running a lot harder on spacers than you will be... including me.

Like Rishie said, hub-centric spacers or spacers with hub-centric rings will not have any vibration. I don't have either on mine when I run them and I don't have any vibrations, so take that for what it's worth.

Wanna know how I knew this was an FD thread....?

Back to topic...

Spacers are perfectly safe, provided they are high quality and hubcentric (or have hub rings) as mentioned before.

I got mine from http://www.motorsport-tech.com/ to run FD wheels about 2 years ago and they have held up fine. 135mph and a few Auto X's. One is even running on only 3 studs yeah....I know, and I'm fixing that soon.

I called the number on the website you mentioned below.

Can you tell me the measurements of the spacers you had put on your FD that you purchased from this website?

Thank You.

actually, mine were for an FC (20mm front/ 25mm rear)

you prolly won't need quite that big a spacer since the wheels were actually designed for the FD
