Question Is anyone running the Eagle F1 GS-D3?

According to our buds over at the tire rack (actually the customer ratings), they are the #1 rated Max Performance Summer Tire. The BFG Gforce KD is #15 out of 19. My how technology marches onward when I wasn't looking.

I am looking for more grip than my current S03s, sick of spinning the tires below 70 mph at 12 psi boost. Also, S03s are only available in as wide as a 265, these goodyears come in 285s and even 315s. I am thinking that the 315s will be too much for a 10 inch wide rim.

Anyone?

Check this out. Some interesting stuff, esp in the charts towards the bottom.

Thanks for the info Martin. So she is up and running well I take it?

On a side note, this thread is listed as having 3 replies and only 1 view. Weird.

Rich,

I've been running the GS-D3s for a while now. I went from Toyo Proxes FZ4s to these and noticed a serious improvement in traction. I will still occasionally break loose on 13 psi (~360 whp) at the top of first gear, but they are a pretty good tire. I will probably be getting some Nitto 555R drag radials when the car gets out of the body shop. I got sideways pretty easily in 2nd gear on 18 psi, so I'll be needing more traction now.

Kumho MXs hold ~400+ on my Supra in a 285-40-17 all gears, unless I dump the clutch. At ~450 things start to get a little more interesting

No offense but that will make this an apple to oranges comparison. The heavier Supra will have more weight on it's rear when compared to an Fd which is lighter at that same hp level. The Rx7 may loss traction at 400+ with those tires.

None taken, but as far as straight line traction in a street compound the BFG KD is first, and the MX is second. This observation is based on the amount of traction available for Supras ranging from my car up to 700hp+ cars. Point is it does not matter what car it is, if the tire provides more traction for me, it will for you (without getting into an argument about sping rates, dampers, and suspension set-up). I have run KDs, RA-1s, AVS Sports, V700s, Ecsta700s, and full slicks on my car. Straight line, the MX compares favorably to a TOYO RA-1 (130* temp range) That is pretty hard to beat. Not to mention they cost 1/2 of what a KD costs. Just sharing, I have a ~450hp road race FC, so I understand the effects the differnce in weight make. Regards, Carl

I wish Kumho made a 315 width 17" version of the Ecsta MX.
The GSD3 is available in this size.

I ran the Goodyears in last year's One Lap of America race on an automatic WRX that liked to downshift somewhere around the apex of corners (causing near spins).
The tires were very good though, no complaints. Very predictable behavior and they held up pretty well. I have no experience on any other brands, but these are pretty good and they should be pretty good in the wet as well.

Ben

Carl,

How about the grip of the tires you've had. Would you tell us from your exp?

Thanks,

POM HB

I have about 1000 miles on goodyear GS-D3's. 255/40/17 all the way around. I bought them on the basis of the tirerack ratings and reviews. I had yoko avs sports before. The goodyear's have alot better traction than the yoko's had. They are also quieter, look cool, great water traction and are a good price.

I had a short period when I had some half used BFG-KD's and I hated those tires. They were horrible as far as road noise. Traction was fine but wet traction was not good.

If you are looking for a good all around street tire I do recommend the GS-D3's. I plan on tracking my car at VIR next weekend so I will give you some feedback on the high end performance. I have only pushed lateral traction hard one time and they seemed fine. They made more noise than the avs's did which I think is good (I like for the tire to tell me it is getting close rather than silently leading me towards my destruction). Straight line is good though like pianoprodigy said top of first still spins at 14psi so I have turned my boost down to 10psi under 30 mph.

I have them, and like them, but they spin pretty easily. Gotta be careful feeding the throttle in 2nd, 1st is almost impossible to control with any throttle at all. The warmer the weather, the better they are.

The Eagle F1 GS-D3 is what I was reffering to.

Mileage depends on the driver and alignment, but I meant once they get below like 4-5 32's of tread they get pretty noisey.

A note on AVS Sports, Excellent for the first 50% of tread(equal to MX), then throw them away, NO grip at all. Carl
