Alignment issue:

After a few track days, I noticed my cars tendency to pull to the right became worse.
Let me just say that my alignment is FINE and it has been checked. When the wheel is held center the car drives straight.

But, when I let go of the steering wheel, it begins to turn right and does so pretty drastically. It has gotten to the point where I almost have to fight the wheel so it doesnt turn.

My guess is that something is either bent or my steering rack is damaged. I am not familiar with this kind of issue so I would like to ask if anyone has any pointers. Any week points in the front suspension prone to bending? or common issues which can cause these symptoms?

Appreciate it fellas,

Also, could be a bad tire. That will cause all sorts of weird pulling problems.

You're gonna have to get under there and do a good visual on everything.

I have the widefoot swaybar mounts. Still in good shape.

Ive done a visual test and didnt see anything which seemed bent. Ill have to get the car on a lift and do a more thorough test i guess

rotate the tires and see if it changes. while you've got it in the air, check everything else too

I dont think it is the tires or air

This is mostly a track car. I have used 245/45/16 Toyo R888's and experienced this. Ive used hankook v12's 255/35/18 same issue, and now 275 R888's up front and its the same. The issue progressed after my last track event which is why I believe something is either shifting or bent.

What are the specs on your current alignment?

How much toe and caster are you running?

Have you tested this on a FLAT road? Some roads are slanted towards the gutter for rain, and will cause the car to pull right. This is specially true when running wide R-compound or slicks.

-1.7 camber all around I believe caster was about 5 and toe is straight (0) front and back. Trust me its not road conditions, the car HEAVILY pulls to the right on smooth roads wet or dry. There is def something wrong.

Along with checking for bend or worn suspension parts, also check your steering rack bolts to make sure they aren't a little loose.

Maybe your front caliper need rebuilt! That what happen to me when my car pull hard one side. My caliper dosent want to return free so the brake was always apply on one side.

Take a 10min ride and check if your front wheel are evenly warm. when caliper stuck, the wheel became very hot!

Good luck

loose, bent or slopppy suspension components would also most likely show up as dead spots in the steering, clunking or some other issue as well as a pull.

swap the tires from side to side and while your at it make sure the wheels spin free

Loose steering rack bolts were also suggested to me when I had mystery alignment issues. Mine were tight but apparently that's been an issue with others.
It ended up being tie-rod ends. They "looked" fine, and felt fine with the car up...but weren't.

Check upper and lower control arm bushings. It is better to check them while on an alignment machine. Worn out lower control arm bushings in particular make it difficult for the suspension to hold an alignment for long. This is b/c the LCA bushings are rather large and the rearmost one is liquid filled iirc. It will hold while the guys is aligning but take the car off, and take it for a hard drive and recheck and it will be different.

Wrong section btw

Any chance that the springs are binding? On my 1st gen coilovers, sometimes the mounting bolts will back out until they rest against the upper perch. When this happens, you can get pulling to one side or the other because the spring isn't rotating properly when the wheels are turned.

Just a thought.

Good luck with your issue....

Probably not. He doesn't have coil overs and those springs are on the stiff side.
