Aftermarket sway bar mounts

Does anyone use them, I have an FD and was told that I should look into this mod for autocrossing. What do you think? If you have them what did you go with and $$$?

Thanks

I autox a lot. Right now I have the stock front bar with stock mounts and it's fine. Once you go to a harder bar the conventional wisdom says to upgrade the mounts; those offered by Crooked Willow and M2 Performance look to be bullet proof.

Beware of the Racing Beat sway bar brace. Although it does help, it uses the stock mounts which can still suffer and crack under the load of a thicker bar.

I plan to upgrade the front bar and mounts soon, but am still stock for now.

I have a R1 which has stiffer bars already, I don't think mazda would have made different mounts for this reason ., I also have eibachs and koni sports.

it is 279 + 15 shipping for the cwc mounts and 350 for the racing beat front sway bar. man I should just pay my car off.

The front bar on all cars on all years is the same. Only thing stiffer on the R1 is the struts; springs and bars are the same among all models.

The rear bar on the 94-95 is different from the 93 though; can't remember if bigger or smaller.

Smaller - to reduce oversteer.

I have the Mazda Comp. brackets along with the Racing Beat brace & I can definitely feel the difference.

I was always under the impression that the R1 Suspension package was more than stiffer shocks. I had often seen people selling the springs saying "convert your base or touring suspension to the R1" Oh well My fault for not really questioning those ad's and doing some research....

my stock swaybar mounts cracked under the pressure of my Racing Beat front swaybar. I even had the RB reinforcement bracket on there when they broke, and the RB bracket broke along with the swaybar mount. so I dont think very highly of that part.

I replaced them with the CWC/Widefoot swaybar mounts. I hesitated paying that much for a stupid mount, but they are very good quality. Added bonus: they raise the swaybar about an inch or 2 so that it doesnt scrape the ground anymore (that might be one reasonwhy the stock one broke).

It is definately worth it if you're getting an aftermarket swaybar, you dont want your swaybar mount to break in the middle of a high speed turn (which is when they like to break).

Hi Lenny,
Glad you like the mounts. I know it seems
like a lot of money, but it's cheaper than fixing a car
that gone off the track due to a broken OEM mount
(as happened to a freind here in Boston). And they
ain't cheap to make...

I've got some Widefoot mounts waiting to go on. They are very nicely made and come with all the hardware and instructions and stuff. You can tell that a lot of care went into their design and manufacturing. They were even packaged up with care. Most importantly, they seem well engineered in that they address the real problem. These seem like the best option after seeing pictures and reading reviews of the other mounts and mount reiforcements available.

I bent one of my stock mounts during an off-track excursion and it totally screwed up the handling. Lesson learned: heed the debris flag - I hit some oil at 90 MPH and spun into the dirt. It was scary. At least I wasn't going 120 like I would have been with no flag, but I think I'll pay more heed to debris flags in the future. I will be glad to have the bar moved up a bit with the Widefoot mounts, out of the way of rocks and things.
