Sway Bar Decision

Thinking about installing some sway bars for autocrossing, have been looking at Eibach's and Suspension Techniques. Any Pro's or Con's at to which one is better. Or is there a better choice?

Thanks in Advance,
Andre

suspension techniques are more for street. go with eibach or racing beat. if you can, find an adjustable rear

Eibach, but you must modify the rear sway bar bushings as they are too "short", AND you must make your own sway bar "stops" to keep the bar from moving side to side under hard cornering (lest the rear end links break).

Exclamation Suspension Techniques suck!

I got a set for my CRX and had to use their brackets. They were a different design than factory and way too wide, so they rubbed the exaust. I called the company before they filed bankruptcy and they told me nobody buys aftermarket exaust systems, so it was my fault and I should put the stock exaust back on to solve the problem.

I asked him if he was smokin crack or just mentally retarded by he couldn't answer the question!...or did he? Anyhow, got nowhere with the company. Since they claimed backruptcy I couldn't send them back. I threw them in the trash where they belong and purchased Neuspeed (perfect fit).

I am using racing beat sway bars and am extremely happy with their performance. Here is my suspension setup, the car handles excelent, perfect for auto-x.

goracer: you threw them in the trash?

****, I'd have paid shipping for them.

I have after market exhaust on my CRX, but it ends right in front of the rear tires, so no problem there.

The racing beat front bar is great (and maybe the cheapest??). You can also try disconnecting the rear bar before you upgrade it. I know someone who used to race the GTUs and the TII for Mazda in the early 90's and that was his suggestion for driving the car harder than street driving. It allows the rear suspension to work well.

Also, make sure you are not standing on your rear bump stops. The stock ones are not as bad as the KYB stops, but if you put a zip tie on the strut piston rod, you may see that it goes way up into the stops.

What kinda of bullshit is this.&nbsp If you're talking about an FC application, you have no clue what you're talking about.

Red face Yes, I really threw them in the trash

Sorry, didn't think anyone would want them (ST sway bars). I can't beleive they told me that aftermarket exaust is the last thing people buy and most people never buy it..."WTF"? Suspension Techniches must be smokin crack (allegedly)!

Anyhow, I woulda gave them to ya but you prolly woulda been pissed at me after you put them on.

For the FD, the Racing Beat rear bar sucks ***. I bent mine from getting the car sideways too much. I bitched to Racing Beat, got a replacement, and bent that one too.

I know someone else that bent their RB rear bar, but I just thought it was a problem with the car rather than the bar. From Devilish's report, it sounds like the bar is bad. Darn, I was going to get one of those. I liked that it had two positions to mount the end links, offering some adjustment. Does anyone know of another adjustable rear bar?

P.S. This thread title reminds me of the Frank Zappa song "Cocaine Decisions". The "How thick is your bridge" thread had the BeeGee's "How Deep is Your Love" song popping into my head whenever I saw it. Please consider what song your thread titles might remind someone of. The Zappa song is great, but the BeeGees song got old after I saw the thread a few times.

who else is there then?

Both M2 & Tri-Point use Racing Beats rear bar to complete a set.

The RB rear bar actually felt great. That's why I got a second one. The other problem with it though is it's too long. It's about an inch longer than the stock bar. When put on the stiffest setting, the ends of the bar rubbed the shocks under hard cornering. I was going to get the Eibach rear bar but heard from two people it didn't fit great. I may just order the '99 rear sway bar from Mazda. I think it's 20mm, but I could be wrong.

On a side note, Racing Beat originally told me they wouldn't replace the bar since so much of the car isn't stock and at the time, the car was going to the track. "Wait a minute, aren't you guys called RACING Beat?" They finally gave in.

I highly recommend using aftermarket swaybar mounts with an aftermarket front sway bar. The stock ones are known to break under the stresses of a larger front sway bar (happened to me). I have CWC sway bar mounts and they work great. Do a search on swaybar mounts.

I bet who ever Racing Beat got to heat treat their swaybars fcked up. If my memory serves me correctly the ROCKWELL hardness should be somewhere around 40 depending upon the steel. Can't seem to find my notes for the last bars I made. "Not for a FD". It would be very easy to check the RC or to have it checked by someone.
If one was bad then the whole lot that they ran is probably bad too. They should be heat treated again. RB would have no way of knowing unless they checked one themselves.

I was planning on getting one too. When I do purchase one, I will check it.

Develish - just out of curiosity What rear spring rates were you running

I'm using the ST bars (f/r) on my FD currently. Initially I was worried about too much understeer due to the heavy, thick front bar. The rear is adjustable (two holes) and seems to compliment the front nicely. I also run a slightly higher rear to front spring ratio than a "typical" street/track setup. Yes, the front springs are still have a heavier spring rate than the rears, it's just the rears are a bit firmer than most would go for. So...it all seems to work well. I've upgraded the swaybar mounts using the widefoots which are an absolute work of art and very effective. I've also upgraded the swaybar end links using the Mazdatrix pieces. I should have it out on the track April 6 for some initial testing.

As far as the Eibach bars go, they've discontinued them for the FD. Not sure if you can even get a rear bar for them and they may be special order only on a complete set so be prepared to wait for some time.

Question HKS?

OK, so HKS rear and M2/Tri-Point in the front?

Yes, I am assuming without knowing that Tri-Point buys from M2 because they will only install their own products.

Does anyone use the HKS?
