can anyone recommend a good place for wheels with decent prices?

I'm leaning towards 17's and running either a 275/40 or or 295/35 rear and probably 255/40 front.

As far as wheels I like the dished look but don't want them to be too heavy. Are dished wheels usually heavier or does it just depend on the brands? Thinking 10" rear and 9" front.

As far as fitting a 295/35 can this be done without flaring the rear fenders? and what about rubbing on the inside with stock suspension?

i'm also considering some 285/35/17's

they look to be close to stock overall height and give a tad more width

I was pretty adamant on what sizes I wanted, I compromised before on the front sizing with the RA1 (255/40) and they werent offered in the 245/40 front size i wanted. The fatter front sidewall really bothered me, plus having p/s delete i wanted a bit less rubber in the front. Combine that with all the great reviews for the XS and I thought I'd try them out

You won't find 285/35-17. I've looked quite extensively. 295/35-17 can be found rarely (example new Kumho XS).

Thanks. Yeah i just noticed finding 285 in a 17 inch is dificult. I found some used listings but they are probably a typo. I just thought if i could keep the tire closer to stock height it wouldn't effect the gearing and i could have a little more rubber. It probably doesn't make that much difference and some tires run wider or narrower within that range anyway. I'll probably go with a 275 and see how it fits. Depending on that i might try a 295 next go around. Now to find wheels.

I can tell you that the 275 40 17 fits on a stock FD (rear) with no modifications at all--that's on a 9.5" rim with a +45 offset. They are a bit taller than the stock size, but it is minimal and I like having the additional diameter, which helps the ride as well as traction just a bit. A speedo error of about -2.5% (IIRC) is introduced due to the slightly higher effective gearing.

For the front, 275 40 17 doesn't quite fit so you can't run a square setup, i.e., the same size all around at this point, at least not without flares; and although I have run them with rolled fenders, they will scrape. 255 40 17's will fit and they are close to the stock diameter, as you pointed out, giving the car a slightly staggered look. I lean towards the 245 45 17 size, which happens to be the stock size used on the front of many 'vettes, so it is readily available. What I like about it is that it matches the 275 40 17 in diameter making the car look more even. (not staggered).

really how much is going from the stock size to 275 40 going to effect the gear ratio. alot of people compalin about this but it didnt hurt me in the slightest at the drag strip. it may even be helping me as i seem to trap pretty damn high.

I actually have a few threads on this.....it numerically changes your final drive from 4.10 to 3.90. This is the reason i sprung for 4.30 gears from www.rx7.com when I had my cryo-treated new S4 TII diff installed.

After much deliberation I recently switched to the G-Force R1 (also 60 treadwear) for my 400+ rwhp track only car.

It is still possible to break the tires loose, however....ask me about my fun spin in turn 6 at Infineon

And Fritz probably has the most road race experience on this thread so far, so do yourself a favor and listen to him. Peter and GoodFellas are also long time high horsepower guys and you'll benefit from their experience.

Still after rolling the fenders, the 275's are not big enough - need to go to 10 or 11" tires in the back and 10's in the front - cutting my fenders is in my future plans (both front and rear flares)....and don't forget the power of aero - at speeds over 60 mph a proper wing and diffuser will add rear end grip equal to adding more tire size, without actually adding more tire. That's my next step - waiting for JKL's new CF wing to come this month.

i say go with some 305 MT drag radials, and roll that fender a shitload, so you can really rely on always having traction.
