2nd gen rear brake pads on 3rd gen
I tried to install these 2nd gen pads in good shape on my 93,but they would not clear the rotors. even tried to compress the caliper with a clamp, then tried cracking open bleeder valve to compress caliper but that did not help. are the second gen pads thicker ? or am i doing something wrong?

from what i know, i don't think the 2nd gen pads will fit in a 3rd gen. but they look almost identical. i've changed couple of rear brake pads on a 2nd gen and it looks alittle bit different from my 93.
why don't you just buy the 3rd gen rear brake pads to begin with??

Steve, I did buy them from the rx7store. Hawk hps for the rear and they sent the front! Said they shipped april 6, received them on the 14th of May ! and I never did get a tracking # . I am autocrossing on weekends so i am just trying to get by until i can get some ordered in. They really have me upset. No help from them, just alot of excuses and whineing about 500 orders, this and that, and too much trouble. Thanks for the help, yes they do look the same.

Ok Ted, Thanks. I guess the problem is compression of the piston in the caliper enough to clear the rotor. Again the pot does not want to retract enough, even with a clamp and a small amount of fluid release. Should the engine be running to overcome the abs?

On the FC's, you'll need to twist the piston back into it's hole.  There's a special universal tool that you can buy from the local auto parts store that can help you with this job, but a simple twisting with a pair of needle-nose pliers works most of the time.  This might work on your FD...

Thanks guys for all the replys. I have the factory 93 manual and it shows this tool but is very vague about its purpose, that is what i needed to know Ted. I knew it was different than any calipers i have worked on when the pot would not retract with a clamp . (240 Z guy) Dave
