where are the tuning shops in TX

I live In houston and there basically no tuning shops for my FC turbo II, I've heard of mazda max but they only do the apples for apples crap and personally I don't want to spend 4k on just having a crate engine of the same motor dropped in. I want to swap to a 20b 3 rotor but I don't know where to get it put in nor do I know of a place that can install mods and tune them, someone please tell me of a shop in texas besides Alamo I've heard bad things about them.

There are quite a few up here in the DFW area, how far are you willing to drive?

Austin has Protech and the much more better MZM. MZM is the best rotary place in austin.

For basic mods, engine rebuilding, mainly FD moddings and tuing; there are the dual of Kyle (twokrx7) who lives in Pearland and Chuck (cewrx7r1) who lives between Houston and Sugar Land. PM them.

For a 20B not in this area!

For a LS1 conversion, Kyle.

If you are willing to drive 300ish miles to the DFW area, I HIGHLY recommend Gotham Racing near Fort Worth. That shop is run by some of the nicest people I have ever met, and they definitely know what they are doing, considering one of them is nationally recognized as one of the best rotary tuners in the country. I would also recommend Rotary Performance in Garland, but the last time I checked, they are fully booked well into next year.

I agree, the guys at Gotham are very nice. They are currently re-doing my 90 FC Vert. with its Cosmo 13B-RE. I had just picked up my car from a shop in Vista CA that had it for just over "TWO YEARS". (that story comes later)

Car blew a seal by the time I reached Las Cruces NM. So I had plenty of time to research for another shop...NO WAY WAS I SENDING IT BACK TO THE VISTA CA SHOP.

Everything came up the same...good shop...good people to deal with. So I called them, felt good with the conversation I had, called a transport company and shipped car to them. I flew home to Houston. So I decided to spend more money...going to 3mm apex, balanced the rotors, Steve did some clean up on the ports, tubing has been cerma-coated, TB polished. Its a 16 year old car so not everything has gone smoothly but its getting there and I respect the work they are doing. Turbo is being sent to Turbonetics for rebuilding and after that I hope that is it.

Now, you want a 20B, I suggest you do alot of research and make sure that is what you want. The only reason I did not go that way was the amount of heat given off. Your passenger is going to roast alittle bit. And since we are in Texas, I did not want anymore heat in the car than I already had.

Good luck and let everyone know what you decide on and why.

That sux, would like to hear that story sometime.

Gotham is awesome. Alex will take great care of you, and Steve is the best tuner in the world when it comes to rotary motors.

I could do that job FCDrifter, but it's an extremely painstaking and expensive one. Have you done the research on what's needed to do the conversion?

We can do the 3 rotor swap for you but the hardest thing is to find you a good engine (which is getting more expensive every day). If you're seriously thinking about doing this, let us know. We have done a few 20B's already and are in the process of building one right now for a customer in a 3rd gen (expecting 650-700rwhp on pump gas).

did the research and yeh u guys were right 20b is hella expensive just for the fullswap and mounting conversion and yeh I can only imagine the labor cost but I decided to get a rebuild kit with the new rotors, 3mm seals, and housings and the whole deal, and I have a greddy turbo upgrade kit with frount mount, now all that's left is labor

-mod list so far
-GPsports CF titanium exhaust
-HKs down pipe
-test pipe
-apex'i SAFCII
-exedy clutch (unistalled)
-exedy flywheel(unistalled)
-greddy bov
-720cc injectors
-greddy turbo upgrade-(uninstalled)
-greddy front mount intercooler(uninstalled)
-Gp sports damper(unistalled)
-Jun sports ECU(unistalled)
-koyo radiator w/aluminum shroud e-fan(unistalled)
-samco hoses(unistalled)
-walboro fuel pump(unistalled)

and that's it so I have a lot of work to do

The guys at Marvelspeed are simply awesome. Not that I'm knocking Gotham. I've never been to Gotham so anything I say about them would not be fair. But Don Marvel has always done top-notch work on my car.

Ah, the DFW rotary scene ... I wonder if there's any other state that has this kind of presence.

I am located in the Far-South Houston, (Freeport) I am well known for my Rotary Skills, I would love to do a 20B Swap for someone.

I Have done every mod that you could think of, even a Turbo 6-Port motor.

But my specialty is Bridge-Ported 12A's (250hp) Safe HP

Check out the Houston Rx7 Fourm.
