Next great project
ok as most of you know I like to push the limits on things. Well it is time to do that to the next level. As some of my closer friends know I wanted to build a drag car to do a sub 10 sec run, I was really shorting for a fc but now I am thinking rotary VW Bug.
They are so lite and with a rotary capible of high horse power output, I think it would be easy to make a sub 10 sec car.
Does anyone want to help me find a free or really cheap bug, I was even thinking vw bus

I've owned a few in my day. Actually was driving one when I first fell in love with the RX7.
Stay away from the bus. What you'd want is most likely a Super Beetle. I had two early 70s bugs and always thought about doing this type of project to them. Can't wait to see it!!

What about tires and the trans-axle, what do you do about the higher hp thru and to them.
I have heard that you can use porchs trans-axle, but how much stronger are they?
I just got a line on a Super Bee.....

Get a older import body like toyota 86 and older or mazda rwd from the same 86 and older 2door, sartet is a great shell with almost no chopping you can get in to the low 10's, vw that i heard running that kind of times require the trans from porshe to hold the high rpm's, but it can be done and good luck

yea the trans will be the issue, I am reading that they are good to about 300 hp.
Keith the problem with building a rail is loads of piping, welding, and still having to get the power to the ground.
I have read that a 300hp bug can run 10's in the 1/4, so I can run a NA

I meant buying an old rail that's ready to go... as opposed to buying a car and stripping it down and/or modifying it.
But yeah, either way. 300 hp N/A (using N2O?) or 12,000 RPM bridgeport I'm curious now?

at first we were thinking turbo right off the bat, we are going to push the NA side first then later go turbo
P-port with weber carb = easy 300hp using no nitrous
Then we we go turbo install FDrotors and run a gt40 or gt42 for 600hp

That 65 bug was for sale in New Braunfels back in July from a guy on one of the local reefkeeping sites. I would have considered picking it up if I hadnt just bought my REPU or as a 3rd rotary (for my wife) if it was a vert!
