great job on the welding. if you didn't say anything, i doubt if anyone could tell it's not your first time. in this sea of FDs coming up, it's great to see an FC going for the stratosphere. good luck and i plan to follow your build very closely.

The 45 degree section after the hole isn't what I'm talking about, it's the hole opening location itself. Best way to tell with your particular fabricated manifold is to remove it and look inside each runner as if you were the air itself traveling through it. From what I can tell by your pic, it looks like if you look into your front runner, you would be able to more fully see the entry hole to the waste gate runner (which is more in the air's air path). This is because you located the front hole entry further down towards the radiused section of that particular runner. Now compare this to the rear runner as it appears that the rear hole opening begins in the straight pipe section (which is 90 degrees to the air path) and not in it's direct air path.

Think about looking at a any exhaust collector from the large merged end. You would clearly be able to see all the runners from the large opening. That's the example I'm trying to get to you to see.

I hope I'm not stepping your your toes or anything, it's just that when most people have boost control issues everyone here tends to think to fix it, they need a larger waste gate. That's not really true. Properly putting the waste gate runner "opening" in the right place makes the most difference in your waste gates ability to control boost.

This thread here has some really good info on the subject.

T-von, I see what your saying now. I remember reading that thread quite some time ago and I've also read Maximum Boost several times. I agree with you that a "Y" split would provide maximum flow to the wastegate runner, but I felt that putting the wastegate runners on outside of the bend vs the side would disrupt flow in the main runner. I set up a ghetto rig with compressed air to test out the flow through it, and it felt like there was about 1/3 of the airflow coming out of the wastegate runner vs the main runner. When I blew air backwards(from the turbine side) it actually sucked air into the wastegate.

Guess I'll find out how it does this saturday when I get a pump gas tune done.

Heres a few pics of the turbo brace, and a few pics of the brace on the car and in running condition:

Next up: braced aluminum oil pan with 1/2" flange

Wow. Must be nice to have a mill...

The turbo brace looks like it bolts to the turbo flange? Did you use any special locknut to prevent the nuts from loosening up?

I work in a machine shop, so it's not mine, and when the boss is away...

It bolts to the turbo flange/manifold flange, I'm just bolting them together for now, maybe drill and wire the nuts when I have more time.

My appointment is set for 10am, but I might try to change it to 12 if I can't get everything finished in time.

Went back to Defined Autoworks to tune for a little race gas last Saturday, ended up with 531 rwhp @ 18 psi(running 50/50 94 and 110). Peter and Logan of Defined Autoworks did a great job and the car runs fantastic. Boost control is great, holds rock steady at whatever the boost controller is set to with no creep.

Just need to find a way to run my 3-bar and it will be on to 25 psi!

Excellent results! The Dynapak reads lower that a Dynojet, correct?! Wow. Let me know when you're in town again and let's line them up!
