Would a tial 38mm wg be sufficient for a...

t04e w/ .82 or .84 a/r p-trim on the hotside? or should I opt for a bigger wg or larger .96 a/r? Looking to have more midrange punch. This is on a stock port 13b-re, and won't be seeing more than 13-14 psi until rebuild/port later down the road

also, when building the custom exhaust manifold, what is the optimal place for a wg location, as well as direction and angle of the wg exhaust port?

Go with at least a 46mm......general rule is the lower amount of boost you want to run the bigger the wastegate needs to be.

I'm willing to bet it's more where the WG is placed in the exhaust stream vs the size to have a system that works. With my stock port 13b-re and a 46mm tial I'd get creep. But I think it depends on a lot of other things also. Like exhuast pressure after the turbo, main runner ID ect.. Check out my "help me rework my WG runners" thread.

setzep: yeah, I checked out the thread, pretty informative. Basically, here's a very rough sketch of what my exhaust manifold needs to look like

The main exhaust port will be 3", with 1.5" tube running individually from each port. If I'm wrong, please correct me. There are no exhaust restrictions, so it'll be straight 3" exhaust off the turbo, all the way to the muffler. The length of the exhaust runner, measuring from turbo flange to the last bend for the 2nd exhaust port will be about 12". I have not decided on which a/r housing to get for the exhaust yet, .84 or .96? Reccomendations?

Where do you think the optimal wg dump location would be? I don't have room to work in parallel, but I got some lee-way up and down. (which is why I have to move the turbo forward).

Thanks!

What kind of car do you have? The manifold you show here doesn't really look like something that would go in a Rx-7.

When you say either a .84 or a .96 you first have to decide if you are going to make a divided manifold as a .84 is a divided housing and a .96 is a undivided. This manifold looks to be modeled off a log style one (undivided).

I would say optimal WG placement would be at the last bend before it goes into the turbo or on the turbine housing itself. What ever gets a straight shot of exhaust to the WG valve. I would place the WG runner(s) as close to the turbo as possible also.

Like dvls said, the lower the boost you want to run the larger gate you'll need. There are members here that run two 38mm tials, one on each runner.

You said you won't have much restriction after the turbo, that will help with spool up but also invite creep.

I'm going to try and run a tial 40 cause I already have one. If its not enough I'll probably go with two of them. I think wastegate design and placement makes a bigger difference than size. I used to have a 45mm wastegate from New Zealand, and it was really erratic. Supposedly the Tial is supposed to be much better designed.

yeah, I'm thinking I can get away with a 40mm tial unit with a properly placed wg pipe.

Any recommendation on the turbine a/r?
