what exhaust housing is used on the GT35/40
I am having a manifold made up for a GT35/40 turbo. We are needing to know what flange to put on the manifold.
I thought that I read somewhere that it was based off of a T3 housing. The fabricator is thinking it is based off of a T4......
Help please.......I've been searching, and can't find the info

Hehe, this can be debated over and over... and has been but....
T3 housings are generally considered too small for a rotary engine. Until this turbo, *nobody* would "upgrade" their car to anything with a T3 as they can be restrictive on the top end. This is a bit different since it is new Garrett technology and therefor not supposed to be restrictive. Also, the housing is undivided and it has been shown again and again that divided housings help spool and top end as well. A search should reveal several posts on that topic alone.
It all comes down to what you want. If you generalize turbos to good, better and best I would say this is better.... but you'll need something else to have the best.... perhaps next week or so we'll see how all the theory comes together with my new setup. Check out:

Are there any dyno comparisons that prove this? I've been forever curious of the divided housing. I understand the purpose, and theory is definately there...
Spoke with a gentleman at Garrett who swears there is very little if ANY difference.
It would seem to me that if a divided housing didn't spool faster, people wouldn't use them. However, I would just like to see.. Generally speaking; putting something in the way of airflow, even if to direct it, would seem to have negative impact, being that it is in the way... I mean, I've heard of several occasions where people have seen a pound of boost gained by installing an Efini Y-pipe over the stock unit just because the BOV recepticle is out of airflow's way on the Efini pipe..
I searched, but my computer is a tad SLOW... So if I missed something, just slap me.

Yes, well I haven't seen the actual dyno graph. There was a post a while back where Peter (Rice Racing) dug out a study done by an F1 team with a(BMW?). They showed a 50HP increase when using a tunned manifold over a conventional log style. and it talked about the changes seen with divided vs undivided... I'll have to try an dig that up if it's still around.
Furthermore, as for the "putting something in the way of air flow" you aren't really doing that... assuming your entire system is divided... you are merely keep the pulses separate. In the case of undivided, the pulses will actually hit each other at some angle of attack (depending on the manifold). Now if you had an undivided manifold with a divided housing... that would be different altogether.
I'll look for that other post.

I remember someone mentioned they have a GT35/40 with a custom T4 hotside....I believe it was in the thread RIce Racing posted about getting dyno sheets on the GT35/40.
I assume the GT35/40 is simply a GT35 hotside (T3) with a GT40 compressor side (T4), correct?
Why not just get a GT40 with the ball bearing option? Or GT37?

I was the one who was working on a T4... at the time of that post I was told by my machinist that he had one.... not quite true, but it can't be done. We tried everything.
The Gt40 is not available with BB option... tried that too, doesn't matter what Garrett's site or literature says. Don't think the 37is BB either... it was really dumb for Garrett to relase that turbobygarrett website and then half the turbo's aren't even available.

You can get GT40R's from Garrett now.
Now why do you have to go and tease us like that. So you are saying that the infamous GT40R is actually going to be availiable! Ill believe it when i see it! ;-)

You can also check out the Jetta that switched from a T72 to a GT40R and runs 9 second quaters.
