MA Is water injection good to have for 400whp?

I was on the AI Section and doing some reading and people are mostly running AI to be more of a safety feature. I am In the process of trying to pick up a 93 street ported GT35R rx7. I would like to know if I am only pushing for 400-450whp on 93 pump, would an AI be worth buying? Or is it more needed when your in the 500whp range and up. I get it is a good feature to have but if its not needed then I wont look towards it.

Thank you

i only have a few minutes ATM so i will give you the executive summary.

the engine is really small and is close to it's thermal limit at 255 flywheel.

400 is 460 flywheel. 400 is no small output from such a small motor. it is easy to make 400. it is a serious project to run 400 w no motor problems.

yes you absolutely need AI.

a few will post they make XXX without it. i think you will find the majority are happy running AI.

you don't need a complex system. just run 400/500 cc of water.

check out Coolingmist's product line. there are other excellent prods as well.

very true and not many people understand that keeping a 400whp rx-7 running smoothly is a task. there are always a few kinks to work out and AI is your best friend at keeping them happy. i usually tell anyone going above 375whp to start looking at water injection or 14psi+.

I'm a proponent of water/meth above 350ish rwhp. Cost no object I'd install it on any FD above 300.

I'll jump in and also agree that water/meth (or just 100% water, don't do 100% meth though) is always a good idea. Not only does it help keep temps in hand and all that jazz so you can run power with less risk, but it will also help to keep the engine internals clean.

I think its great to have, it keeps everything in check and helps get rid of carbon build up in the motor.

Sweet thank you everyone for your help-the rx7 I was looking to pick up didn't go thru so starting the search again! Getting as much info as I can before I make a purchase so I know what's good and what's bad!

Thank you again guys!

I always wondered why Japan and West Coast rotary shops don't install or recommend these setups, seems like majority of the water injection setups are people in the East Coast.

In my opinion.

The best way is to run appropriate primary fuel such as e85 or 100+oct. An expensive engine depending on this extra accessory? Not for me.
