wastegate vacuum source.

Does it bother if the wastegate sees vacuum? I mean does it have to take it's signal absolutly from after the turbo or can it be taken after the throttle body, like on the nipple where we plug the boost gauge and the BOV?

thanks a lot

it would be wiser to take it before the throttlebody. the vacuum made right after lifting the throttle (ie shifting under full boost) would slam the wg shut diverting the exh. gas back through the turbo more quickly than if it was just to see a drop back to atmo press....

now that i think of it, this does really sound bad... although this effect is probably negligable it might even keep it spooling better for the next gear?? anyone ese have input???

FYI: just incase you dont have adj wg or boost controller. boost settings should be slightly different depending on location b/c of psi drop over IC. should run higher boost if wg is plumbed into manifold.

i have a racegate and it has a port for vacuum and boost. Vacuum to "pull" open the gate and boost to "push" open the gate.

Right now, i have only the vacuum hooked up with a 9lb spring, and it holds 9lbs;and the vacuum port im using is after the t-body.

So i dunno, my set up is working ok, but i like to hear other peoples inputs

Like most external wastegates, yours has two pressure ports. One that opens the gate when there is pressure (the "side port"), and one that holds it closed when there is pressure (the "top port"). You don't need to control boost when there is vacuum, so it doesn't matter what the gate does when there is vacuum applied to the ports.

You have manifold pressure hooked to the side port. It opens the gate at 9 psi.

Hooking the wastegate control hose(s) after the throttle body slows down the wastegate's response time a bit. Note that this is NOT boost response -- it's just how fast the wastegate responds to the boost. That might give you a sharper and better boost response, or it might give you dangerous boost spikes. It might solve some boost oscillation issues, or create them, or have no effect on them. It varies from car to car. It should give you a little more boost, since you will be picking up the pressure signal after the pressure drop of the IC, pipes, and throttle body have been subtracted from the compressor outlet pressure.

That's the normal setup.

The top port can be vented if you are not using a BC

Sorry to be so harsh, but anyone who has actually purchased a wastegate should take 5 minutes to look at a diagram (like the one Carlos posted right here) and understand how the thing works. They are pretty darn simple.

I know how a wastegate works and i understand the drawing, i really didn't need a drawing to understand that. If i could, i would plug it on the nipple on the turbo but there are none on the turbo my friend has.

So my two options are:
let it like it is, plugged after the throttle body or
have a nipple welded on the intercooler piping.

Since the second one involves more work, i wanted to see what people had to say about a wastegate seeing vacuum.

I don't thing that makes me an ignorant, does it?

I don't see it as ignorance, but rather reassurance. :-)

Sorry puma, I don't think there is anything wrong with your question -- it was HAI-TEK7's post that I found troubling.

So the people running a line to the wastegate from after the throttle body aren't having any probems?
