Turbo shaft play?

Please forgive me for i do not have enough time to do a search.

I just recently had my turbo rebuilt and built up a little you can see in my sig but i dont have but 976 miles on my motor and fresh oil and not but about 10 miles on teh turbo, how much play should i have(up and down, side to side)? I have enough to feel it in your finger tip but its juat barely enough to see, and it doesn't rubb or scratch when it spins. And back and forth there is virtually nothing. I called the guys that built it and there telling me that its my oil there pieces from my rebuild chewing up my bearings but i'm still debating if its anything i should even worry about. I admit i don't know much about turbo's them selves but i've herd very little play is ok. Please enlighten me. Ask me anyquestions to get more info. I dont want to start with the guys on how I shouldn't have to pay $200 for a bearing rebuild and i still have 50 something days left on my warranty. Please help.

It sounds fine. The only time your should really be worried is when there is front to back play or excesive up and down/side to side play.

I was a tad worried about the same thing and got these responses...Mine's dual bb turbo which I have been told that it's nomal to have a little play.

I have been told otherwise. Non BB turbo's should have no play. BB's have some play.

My T04B 60-1 .96A/R .70 trim has play. Both of them did. But my friends different turbo manufactors did not.

You can press on the intake turbine wheel and when pressing while turning it will bind. This I was told is no good and another shop told me this is fine.

Everybody seems to have a difference in opinion.

most turbos ball bearing or sleave bearing .. even journal bearing? will have a bit of side-side play.. even when new... by little i mean much less than a milimeter.. there should be NO front/back play... figure it this way, there has to be room for the shaft to "float" in the oil

yo steve its ryan...some side to side and up and down play is all good...but back and forth play (push and pull play) is what you don't want...i think from when i felt your car pull your turbo was working great...especially with the way that thing sounds in your exhaust it should be working fine..peace out bro
