trying to learn about Turbo types

Currently I have an FC N/A, and its being prepped for an 13b-RE swap. Since I have been an N/A guy for a bunch of years now, I have never learned about turbos. I been trying to read the posts in this section, but I just cant understand what determines HP, spool up, etc...

There seem to be a bunch of companies making turbos...garrett, KKK, turbonetics, hybrids- "GT" this, "T" that...

Can someone help me figure out what the sizes are, what they mean, how to read a printout thingie. Also, how can turbos be compared between brands. And anything else that I should know as a boost noob.

Thanks,
-a

You're asking for a lot of information.
Not all of it will be freely given.
I would try and find someone local to you and ask them for help.

I think years back, all the turbocharger manufactueres (sp?) got together and decided to make the model number identifying system (or whatever you want to call it) as confusing as humanly possible!!!
