TO4E w/ -4 AN feed line: What size should I drill the inlet flange?
I am putting a Garrett TO4E .60/.84 on my S4 TII motor. I am running -4 AN from the front iron to the turbo, and purchased the undrilled oil feed flange from ATPTurbo. I have been searching for the proper "restrictor" size, and have seen too much conflicting info to be sure. Any opinions based on first hand experience would be much appreciated.

from what i have read, people say don't use a restrictor for non BB turbos. i just installed my 35R without the restrictor and have no smoking on start up and short drive to my fabricator to get the downpipe made.
these are the fittings i used,
feed line http://www.atpturbo.com/Merchant2/me..._Code=ATP-OIL1
oil inlet from turbo -[url]http://www.atpturbo.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=ATP-FTG-029&Category_Code=ATP-OIL2
45 degree swivel just in case -[url]http://www.atpturbo.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=ATP-FTG-017&Category_Code=ATP-OIL2
banjo adapter from front iron http://www.atpturbo.com/Merchant2/me...egory_Code=BCS
oh by the way the length of the oil feed line fits perfect if you are using an hks cast manifold, i don't know about other brands or tubular style manifolds. if you use the fittings that i did, you won't need to drill anything. if you do decide to drill it's best if you use a drill press to keep the hole straight. i was also confused about restrictor sizes and listened to zero R about his recommendations and i have not needed one.

i have a to4e also i will measure mine here shortly and let you know. but for a non bb turbo there should be no restrictor. journal bearing turbo's use the high oil pressure to help seal all the seals in it.

The turbo could seize up. But the rx7 has such high oil pressure that it should be fine if its between the sizes i listed. Too much oil can eventually cause premature oil seal failure. Most non bb turbos don't need a restrictor in other car applications because the oil pressure isn't as high. The rx7 will probably usually require one. I was in the same boat as you and first tried without one. I get alot of smoke on start up and long boost runs. So i ordered a restrictor.
