Question to4e vs. t04s

i have searched but not found many comparisons. i am looking for good spoolup and 400+ rwhp when i need it -without the gt 35/40 price tag. if spoolup is similiar, i was thinking of a to4s- .70 ar compressor, p trim and a 1.0 ar, divided turbine housing. any recommendations, opinions, dyno sheets? thanx for your time-garrett

I have a TO4S, .60 front .85ptrim, that I will probably be selling. I made 300rwhp at 15 psi with AFR of 9.5:1. I will be tuning it at 22psi with a more reasonable AFR in 2 weeks, I expect it will make 400rwhp.Here's the thing, this turbo spools instantly. You would never know this is a turbo car to drive it, even at that AFR. I'll keep you posted. Carl

After you run the E for awhile you will want more power. Always go big and if you want to go slower de-tune.

yeah that's why i'm leaning towards the to4s. will an hks
standard wastegate be adequate for this turbo, or will it
have boost creep issues at high rpm's?

the HKS standard wastegate will be fine. Never had a boost creep issue with it, I'm running a 60-1, .7 compressor with 4" inlet, 1.0 divided P trim on the hot side (basically a t04S) with a ported motor.

How does it spool and what kind of numbers are you putting down?

Still need to dyno, in first 2 gears all I get is tire spin. Spool is great anywhere above 3K rpm. I get full boost (~12.5 to 13 psi) by ~3400 rpm in 5th. Pulls a lot stronger than my non-seq. stock turbos (dynoed at 300 at the wheels) at the same boost level, and the response is better too. The best part is the reduced heat and back pressure. My car cruise at 75 mph with about 15" of vaccum.

I used to have a t04e and it was a good street turbo, buuuuttt the t04s is much nicer, better looking because it is larger and it is water cooled and oil cooled.

That's why I like to use huge turbos, because they look cool when they are bigger

i have the t04s too. It spools very fast and makes good power. I made 362 @ 15 psi 11.4 afr. Lacks that top end punch though that a GT3540 has. I heard XS or garret is coming out with a bb turbo that'll fit on the T04S kit. Anybody heard anything about this?

I love my XS t04s kit. I don't notice the lag, just the zoom when I press down the gas. 400rwhp is easily reached with some 1600 secondaries and ignition booster. A nice ported engine helps too. I originally wanted an E but went with S and do not regret it.

What mainfold do you use on a 90 t2 to mount the T04s.

You might want to contact XS and ask them. I think Innovative Turbo has T04S BB option turbos.
I've heard that there is an adapter to get the GT35/40 to fit on the standard HKS/XS manifold, but I'm not sure.
