TO4B/TO4E difference

What is the difference between the two types? They have the same T4 footprint, is it just the center section that is different?

I've got a TO4E 57t comp, .84A/R p trim exhaust side right now.. I am shopping around for something that will give me a little more airflow/punch.. on the top end especially. There are a whole lot TO4B turbos on ebay I have been looking at (V trim and H trim compressors) and in studying the compressor maps for these turbos they appear to be more efficient than my current turbo, and also capable of flowing more air. Any advice? Thanks.

Matt

Your T04E "57" has a 2.230" inducer and 2.950" exducer. Housing inlet is 3.000" .

A T04B 60-1 for instance is 2.324"/3.000" with a 4" inlet.

A T04E is a newer desing, but the B flows more.

I've actually been looking at this one here:

Looks like a nice comprimise between my current turbo and a 60-1 possibly.

Way, way too small for a rotary. Honda turbo's are not meant for rotaries...don't even bother.

How is that a Honda turbo? Maybe for a drag application.. A turbo with a 2.324"/3.00" inducer-exducer (same as a 60-1) and a T4 footprint with a decent A/R on the turbine side would work fine no? It certainly looks a bit larger than what I have on paper.

The main differences between the E and B series in TO4's would be the compressor housings and wheels.
The E wheels are more efficent and are 6-blade compressor wheels vs 7-blades for the B series. The housings also flow a little better than the B series compressor housings. The E series also offer a lot more choices in compressor wheels better suited for different applications. The 57 and 60 trim TO4E's can be used on a rotary for moderate power outputs with very good results mainly in the low to mid 300 rwhp range.
The HKS FC upgrade is based on the 57 trim TO4E.
Some manufacturers also offer the TO4E/60-1(60-1 wheel in a TO4E housing) and the TO4B/60-1 Hi-Fi(60-1 wheel in a TO4B housing).
The standard 60-1, 62-1 and 63-1 turbos are not to be confused with TO4B's and E's. They do share some common parts but belong to their own family of turbos.
The 60-1 and 62-1 are based on a 7-blade compressor wheel and the 63-1 is based on a 6-blade compressor wheel but they all share the same 4 inch/inlet, 2.5 inch/outlet, .70 a/r compressor housing.
Just for reference the 60-1 hi-fi(60-1 with a TO4B compressor housing) and 62-1 is only offered by Turbonetics and the 63-1 is based on a 6-blade compressor wheel offered by Garrett.
