Thanks

It depends on how much boost you want to run. How much do you plan on running at any given time?

that spring would be fine then... you could probably even stand to go with a weaker spring. Just try not to run more boost than double the spring weight.

You should keep spring pressure within a few pounds of desired boost pressure, otherwise you will likely have wastegate diaphragm oscillation.

I would say if your running 20lbs I would run no less than 17lb spring.

I have a GT35R, stock ports, and my Tial 46mm WG came with the 7.25 lb spring. No matter what I did to my boost controller settings, I could not get over 13psi boost by 3600rpm when running 15psi max boost.

I installed the 10.15 lb spring and now have 14psi by 3600rpm.

So a heavier spring will help the turbo to spool a little faster.

A stiffer spring will help with crisper response, but a 10lb spring on 20lbs is not going to be adequate.

I really need to get a stiffer spring in my tial 44mm gate. Mine only came with a .5 bar spring and I'm running 21lbs on the street. Given this is a wrx and not a rx7 and the boost does hold fine but I never thought about the spool up as much until now. Need to get at least a 1.2 bar (probably have to use a small and big spring) and that should help spool as the gate will stay shut while the turbo is spooling all the way till the last second.

1 bar spring it is.... makes sense.....but correct me is i am wrong.... the minimum boost i can run is 14.7 psi right?
I run an Apexi AVCr,so i cant figure if the waste gate opens by spring pressure past the 1 bar, whats the point of a boost controller, you still cant force it close, and so exhaust will vent out by 14.7...not before not after.....

sound stupid i know....but confusing

Spring pressure will be minimum pressure yes. If you run spring pressure where you want your boost pressure you can get away with no BC. but not always. I've seen poor designed manifolds that let the boost still flutter too much. It's really up to how accurate you want to be with it.

I would still use some sort of boost control, it can smooth out fluctuations, help with response, and allow you to run higher boost when your ready, so your good to go. No worries.
