T88 set up...a car I am buying...questions..help???

What do you guys think about this set up??? I am looking at purchasing this car in the next few days...........It is a 93 with 29,000 miles on the body and 1,200 miles on the rebuilt and bridgeported engine.....I...know quite a bit about 300ZXtt and Supras but not a whole lot about rotaries...your help is appreciated. Thanks in advance:

- T88 turbo by Greddy
- Apex FMIC intercooler
- Sheep dog bov's (2) (love than name)
- Mazda speed full body (wide body) kit
- True Advan 18' wheels (18x8.5 and 18 x 9.5)
- Greddy Profec boost controller
- Mazda speed leather seats
- Bridgeported engine w/apex seals (Japan only??)
- full roll cage/fuel cell with battery on trunk
- revs at 10,000 rpm.......WTF, is this true??
- Haltech ECU programmable
- Secondary 1600 injectors ???
- two fuel pumps on set up
- 29,000 miles on car - 1,000 on engine/turbo
- top speed 175 (with shorter gear ratio- this I don't doubt)
- straight piping from the turbo out
- Brembo big brake kit (not installed)
- Tokiko adjustable with Eibach springs
- front and rear sway bars and strut bars (Mazda speed)
- Apex gauges for temp, boost, water temp (has Autometer now).

Again, thanks a lot!!!!!

the car doesn't have the fuel gauge hooked up to the cell so it is really hard to keep track.......this should not be too hard, right???? He also has a carbon drive shaft but I am debating on the installation....so my questions would be:

1. How reliable would this car be?
2. I am planning to put in about 4,000 miles/year with the ocassional trip to the 1/4 for tuning......how much boost can I safely run on the streets? What would be things you guys would ask about???

Thanks a lot, I really appreciate your help!!

The car sounded pretty decent til you said that the fuel gauge wasn't hooked up to the fuel cell and that can be a bit tricky for long trips. It sounds like it has some nice JDM stuff on it though, like the sheep dog BOV's and that Advan's. A bridge port some people would say is a kind of big port for the street, most people go with just a "street port" and a bridge port is sometimes considered a "race port", but that is your own preference and personally I would think you would see how drivable it is when you go to test drive it. The car sounds like it is very nice, I would be interested to see pics, but it sounds like a very high horsepower car if it was tuned right. Can I ask how much he wants for it???

it's a Japanese Blow off

Sheep Dog is Japanese Blow off valve. Anyway, on that note, went to Japan a while ago, it was hilarious. They put english wherever they can, even if it doesn't make any sense or is completely out of syntax. I just hope american car manufacturing doesn't rub off on them anytime soon

Wink

thanks for everyone's feedback....

Black99:
I am currently considering an even trade....my 01'S2001 w/5,900 miles and loaded (including hardtop), straight accross for this car....here are a few pics of this beauty (the RX7 of course )..........

http://www.z32.org/unsorted/jaysRX7.jpg

http://www.z32.org/unsorted/jaysRX7interior.jpg

As I said....I am so undecided......I know you will probably be biased but, what would you do???? There are no "real" tuners in my area so I would be having to learn a lot of stuff and quickly....only 2 dynos in the whole KC area

Dan:
you could not be more right about "Japanese" names. I work at a company that designs and manufactures toys...in Hong Kong and China, they are twice as bad....I got some crazy names and stories

Wanka:
The 'owner' claims the blow off valve and recirc. have been rebuilt and the springs have been replaced so they don't give as much boost. He is only running 12 psi currently, also because he just got done with the break in on the engine.....he has too much money invested in the car and knows it will be a piggy bank...he claims not because reliability but because "addiction to part"...I am sure you all know how this can be. I don't plan on taking it to the track every weekend but maybe 3-4 times a year and I would definately would like to do a racetrack (roadrace) event at least 1 per year.

I've seen that car before... I didn't even think that it would be for sale because I think I saw him trying to get rid of it a while ago.. At any rate, I like the car but you have a '01 s2000 that you are trading him even up for??? That's a hard decision, what you have now, it being '01 will be under warranty and pretty reliable, not that rotarys aren't but you are talking about buying a HIGHLY modded car. The car is nice looking I will give him that, but worth the price of the '01 s2000 I am not sure. I'm sorry man I am confused what I would do myself, so I can't help you make that decision.

If he revs to 10,000 RPM's on a regular basis he better have better rotor bearings and gears. You can hook up an autometer fuel level gauge to the fuel cell, or you can try to get your stock gauge to work. The car should be able to run 20-30K miles, but it will require ALOT of attention. You won't be able to just start it up and go wherever you want without checking it out alot. You may want to get it checked out by a rotary mechanic.

The 1600 cc secondary injectors are good, but what primaries does he have? If they're 550's then they're not big enough for that port and turbo. If you don't understand the fuel injectors this is how they work: There are 2 primaries and 2 secondaries that come on at higher boost/RPM's. The dual fuel pump setup is a good idea. I'm assuming he's running SS lines throughout. Who did his work and tuning?

17-18 PSI would be a good limit for the street. That will give you PLENTY of power. If you want to go higher I would recommend race gas. The car should be great for the 1/4 mile, but you may have some trouble with it at the autocrossing track because big singles can be a little picky when it comes to turns. It may take a while to get used to. If this car isn't a primary car thern you should have ALOT more fun with it than your S2000. How much does he want for the car? You may be able to sell the S2000, buy his car, and keep a little money in your pocket for unexpected expenses.

I tried to give a decent reply, but I'm a little tired. You could PM for some better advice if you want, or just e-mail me at jfrederi@juno.com

Yeah, he also needs to stop using Mazda rebuilds with his T-88. Modified rotaries run very well if everything is done right.

Ok with that being said, if this car kicked SAAD SAAD's *** then that is definately one bad *** FD. Definately would have to make gobs of power to be able to do that. silvr94r2 anychance of getting that video in any form so that we could see it??

I really don't know how to get the video on to the computer.I've got almost the whole 2 days of racing on tape from the NIRA nationals that was here last year. It has Abel doing a 7.58@175....it has that orange Starlet getting all crazy.I have some great footage....Steph almost wrecking into the wall and pulling the shoot to straighten up.

Anyway....it's on a Sony Digital Camera.I have the I-link but I can't seem to figure out how to get it all together.I really haven't wanted to try very hard either....kinda want it to be easy.I don't have alot of time to waste doing it.Kinda busy with business stuff....if anyone knows of a simple program or something......please let me know.

Thanx...

In KC there are quite a few knowledgable enthusiasts: One, a good friend of mine, that knows the Haltech pretty well. I think there are 3 or 4 cars in the club up there now that run E6K's or are in progress.

If you can trade straight across, I'd do it SOOO quick! I wouldn't daily drive it of course.

Nice ride

Hey there Angel,

Russell forwarded this thread to the KCRX-7 club mail list.

I think I might be able to give you a bit of insight.

I bought a pretty heavily modified 3rd gen last year. It's got the body kit , FMIC, Sgl turbo, Power FC, Etc Etc.

I too was torn on the decision between reliability and fun.

I went with fun. I love this car. It is about as practical as a Ferrari, but it turns more heads than you would ever think possible. Especially here in the pickup truck infested midwest.

If you're expecting to buy this thing and be done with it, don't. You will be pouring money into it. That's what a toy car is all about. But, you can be assured that this is the best way to get a project car. This guy obviously has a ton of money already in the car. Now all you have to do is maintain it.

And yes, we have a coupla guys here in KC who know rotaries and Haltech's very very well.

So, I'd do it (hell, I already did it). S2000s are killer cars, but you'll have alot more fun in the RX. Just don't plan on using it as a daily driver.
