Exclamation Turbo Compressor questions...HELP PLEASE!!

ok, so i'm sitting here reading through the september 01 SCC mag. i'm calculating mass flow numbers and pressure ratios and this just aint coming out right... i'm plotting my numbers on the compressor maps and i don't know how the F^#K you guys can run T-76+ turbos.. i can't even get a T-66 to look viable. i'm really close to the surge lines on most maps over a TS04. i'm plugging in 23 and 25 psi... and i'm geting mass flows of 38.4 and 40 . with those numbers i'm in the zone on a T66 but at less pressure or less flow i'm in the surge area(bad news for the 2k turbo).

SO, my question.. this is set up for pistons engines... they have one chamber per piston and so the displacement is the sum of all the chambers... so a 2 liter engine is 4 chambers of 500 cc added up to be 2 liters... BUT rotories are only measured with one side of the rotor at a time correct? so one face of each rotor added up makes up 1.3 liters or 80 cubic inches????? when the motor is runing then there are 3 faces that are constantly in a cycle that a normal 4 cycle would run...so wouldn't i want to mess with the displacement numbers some???

SOMEONE HELP ME PLEASE!!! i'm so pumped to have the money to buy a turbo but i'm lost on what to buy. i want to stay somewhat streetable but have enough ponies that its gonna take a Viper with some mods to beat me(or a well invested supra or something along that line). KNOW WHAT I MEAN???

thanks for any help on clearing up this confusion!

peace all

Jay

oh...yeah..

and by streetable..i mean runs lower boosts OK... like 15-17psi or so...

i don't care bout lag... i'll pick a A/R housing and a turbine that'll make things a good compromise between flow and spool up.
thanks

ha ha ah NEVER MIND!!!

i'm a smart guy... just i get stuck once in a while...but while sitting her thinking about how hot my girlfriend is...it jumped into my head that the rpm's are devided by 2 in the cfm equation... and since one rev in a 4 banger is only 2 combustion events and one rev in a rotory is the one of three sides making a complete combustion event... then i just remove the 2... YAY!!!

i hope that if anyone else gets stuck they are now unstuck... i hope i may have impressed more people than i just depressed...

later

Jay

ps... time to go get back on with buisiness the girl awaits!

Take a look at http://www.innovativeturbo.com . That'll simplify the math.

I've plotted psi v. bhp on several popular compressor maps (60-1, 62-1, T62, T64, T66, and T76) at http://www.se-rx7.com/gallery/maps.html

Conventional wisdom is: for streetability, keep boost below ~17psi. That keeps you on pump gas, and keeps the charge air temp down some (more psi = more heat).

For 450bhp or less at less than 20psi, the 60-1 or 62-1 are your compressor. If you want to run > 20 psi, the T66 or one of its cousins is the ticket. Since I don't have maps for the T78 or T88 kit turbos, I don't know where they fall in the equation.

You're gonna need a fuel system, ECU, FMIC, clutch and probably a radiator to take a Viper, IMO.
Take a look at Kurgan's setup.

All best,
Steve C.
