T78 Vs Gt35r...
Aiight peoples...the time has come to decide and I honestly need help. I can possibly pick up a brand new Greddy T78 Turbo kit or an HKS T04E kit at a really good price, or I can go with a GT35R Kit for more money. My dilemna is which kit to go with...
Here's the deal...I'm not tryna set any landspeed records, I do plan to track the car a few times...but nothing crazy...I like to enjoy the car, mainly. Meaning I don't care about a huuuuge turbo and tryna go ten seconds if it means crazy lag and ****. I know the GT35R is a Ball bearing turbo and one of my boys actually has it on his M3...and it's a really nice spool up and the whole nine...I unserstand his set up is different or whatever but I have personally seen the potential of that turbo...and I'm really leaning towards buying it...plus I spoke with A-Spec Tuning and they guarantee their pipes and manifolds...which I really like the idea of.
Ok so Comparitively...T78 or T04E or GT35R?? Mind you I may be able to save up to 800-1000 on the first two kits compared to what i'd pay for the GT35R...not that it would matter given the fact that i've saved up originally for that kit anyways...I just need some advice I guess...or some helpful...honest suggestions...I know A-Spec moderates the Single Turbo Forum, and no disrespect to them...
So if anyone can help me out in this I'd appreciate it....
Thanx again,
T

I plan to drag it a few times just to get some times, but otherwise, mainly a street driver...nothing major. I'm on a budget and if money was no object I'd get a GT99R!!! Hahaha...but honestly I have a certain range I can afford and I also want to keep the car very streetable being that's it's pretty much my daily driver...I am rebuilding it being that the engine went so I figured go single while everything is already outta the car.
But yeah, are the Greddy manifolds and pipes prone to cracking or anything like that?? I mean I could be saving about $1000 on the T78 kit compared to the GT35R kit.

the GT35R and the T-78 are totally different turbos that will achieve different goals. The 35R is relatively small comapred to the T78..... for street driving and fast spool the 35R is hard to beat. for drag racing and big boost the T-78 is the way to go
That's a pretty diverse selection there.
My personal feelings...
Use the SEARCH button.. this question, or one very similar, comes up daily it seems.
T04E
------
You'll get around 350 rwhp at 14 PSI. Parts should be easy to find in the future if you ever need them. Kinda small in my opinion.
T78
-----
Probably more like 400 rwhp at 14 PSI, but you will have a little more lag. Since this is a Greddy kit, parts availability may be a problem (don't know??). This turbo will definitely make more power than the T04E at the same boost levels, but will feel a bit laggier.
GT35R
--------
I don't have as much info on this one, but it seems like the best of the three you mentioned. I'd expect somewhere around 400 rwhp at 14 PSI with better spooling than the T78. Of the three, this would be my pick even though it's expensive.
As a cheaper alternative, what about the trust T04S? If I had to guess, I'd say it was way cheaper than the GT35R with very similar spool up and power potential....

I think it would be hard for you to find 3 less similar turbos to compare.
Have you considered the AF61R? It beats all three and price. With a complete exhaust sytem on ported motors, people are getting 15 psi in the 35-3700 range. The turbo has made over 400hp at 15psi. Where are oyu located? You are looking at under $3000 INSTALLED on an AF61.

I defeinitely like the fast spooling of the GT35R, like i said my boy has one in his M3 and it's a Monster (of course tuning plays a part also). The T78 Kit is less than 3g's thru a friend of mine that has a hookup with a distributor, which is basically the reason I am undecided about what to do. I mean it sounds like a good deal to pass up on, but to be honest, my main thing is I want a good street Turbo that I can have fun with...with minimal lag, which is why I'm leaning toward the GT35R. I just don't want it to be an thing where I'm like FAAAACCCK!!! I shoulda bought the T78 Kit!!! Haha.
Ummm...few specs on the car...I got a stage 2 Street Port Reman'd from RX7Store, Pettit SMIC, Apexi Power FC& Commander, Spec Stage 2 Clutch Kit...Last three pieces I need are BOV, Wideband, and Boost Controller...Any suggestions?? I got the greddy intake elbow with the hole for the BOV already in it...I thnk that's all for now...
My main thing is reliability and fun to drive factor...I know the car will haul *** and that's fine with me, not tryna break any records or nothing, drag it a few times...try to see what times i can get to and that's it...after that I just wanna chill with the car and have fun with it...

I would suggest the 35R with the T4 hotside as well. But everyone is right, you couldn't have mentioned 3 turbos that were further apart from each other. People are seeing well above 400whp at 15 and 16psi with the 35RT4 and getting full boost by 3500-3800rpm.
The AF61R is also putting out some impressive numbers. It all comes down to who you feel more comfortable dealing with.

True...I'm pretty close to the GT35R choice from A-Spec Tuning...the guys are pretty cool and they take the time to explain and answer all my newbir rotary questions, hehe. Who sells the AF61R kit?? I may look into that one also...I got a few buddies with Supras in my car team and I wanna give them some grief on the streets, hehe. They been talking slick about the two RX7's we got in our crew, so it's time for the Rotary boys to kick some ***...all in good fun tho...lol.
I couldn't agree with you more. The guys at A-spec have the best customer service that I've ever experienced! DaVinci or D R Autosports is their name now. That's who is selling the AF61R turbo's.
I'd say that you can't go wrong with the 35R though. Just my .02

I've already been through this mess. Toss everything you've got at me, Alien, but it won't stop me if I so choose to do the same as Jacob here and tell the world what a con that turbo kit is. We've got concrete proof that it's not something custom-made but rather, as Jacob as said, is a Schwitzer S300 variant that's literally off-the-shelf for a John Deere setup. It's not even as good as your garden-variety 60-1 that, among others, is very well proven. The AF61R is a scam through and through.
Best regards friends,

Face it, you guys lost. This turbo kit was so grossly, falsely advertised it's not even funny. Many of us nailed you all on it yet you still refused to relent even though what we presented clearly showed that this turbo was nothing of the sort in how it was described by the seller. You guys oughta be ashamed of yourselves both in its advertisement and promotion as well as by your conduct as a result of what was said when many of us raised legitimate concerns over this kit's technical merits.

Alright guys, let's not get this started again! Handle it through PM's if you feel the need to keep at it. This guy wants people's opinions on what turbo he should get. Whether or not DaVinci got caught scamming or not doesn't belong in this thread.
So X9, have you come to a decision yet? Feel free to PM me if you have any questions and I'll be glad to help you out to the best of my abilities.
BDC, check your PM's bro.

Hehe...Goddamn!!! Rex...I think I'm goin with the GT35R...my boy bitched me out about not getting the T78 last night, buy honestly I don't care about it being a bigger turbo etc etc...I like how the GT performed, I think it's a good street turbo and it'll keep my RX7 fun to drive for a nice long time I believe. Not to mention that the A-Spen guys are cool as hell and I think they are goin to do right by me...
so thanx all for your help...I'll keep you up dated...
