T72 Qtrim
T72 Qtrim
Is anyone out there running a T72 with a Qtrim on a .96 exhaust? Im looking for numbers to compare when i head for the dyno. I know what the turbo is capable of but id like some realworld numbers.
Kind Regards

I have a T72 (T51 with 72mm compressor) on a R trim wheel and 1.22 divided rear.
No numbers as yet but am expecting well over 600+rwhp on pump (WI assisted) and 800+rwph when pushing it

What kind of power (if any) are you guys making in the midrange? Say around 4500rpms? Or if you havent had it on a dyno to see the power what kind of boost do you have by 4000-4500? Is it just then starting to spool up or what?
I was thinking of running a T72 Q trim with a 1.0 divided

Just for reference I've made 650 rwhp with a T-72/ 1.00 P-trim.
In my opinion a T-72 should not be on a street car or for that matter in a setup that's running less than 30psi of boost.
The same turbo is presently on a friends TII and it made 560 RWHP at 27psi with a .96/P-trim turbine on a street ported 13B-REW motor.
Comparing the T-72 to the smaller T-70 or T-66 I would say below 5800 rpm the power is lower.

I think it all depends on what you are doing technicaly with the engine.
In my case I am using all custom manifolds (Intake and exhaust) very heavily ported engine, Water to Air IC. My engine will breath so much more than your conventional street port running "normal" set ups, this turbo is modeled to work very well @ 20psi boost.
You just need to look at the compressor map range to see that. Having said all that 20psi would be my absolute minimum boost recomendation and that is on a motor combination that is exceptional in terms of volumetric efficiency (Interaction of compression, porting, manifolding, IC efficiency charge pipe length, cooling medium, rev ranges).
On a 13B with typical street mods I think Cris is pretty much on the mark with his advise. Need a good motor to run this baby.

well i did some 4th gear runs on the street. It took the turbo a while to get to 5psi, but after that it went nuts. I only ran it up to 11psi and i was at 4800 rpm in 4th. I cant wait to tune this and get it up to 20psi. were is the earliest you guys running a T72 are seeing boost?

I get full boost 32psi @ 6000 Rpm and 5-6000 is the most. 3500 and below ZERO psi. Ill look at my dyno graphs and see what my motor
does fromm 4-5000 rpms and post. Ralph
Also my post above was supposed to be 560 @ 26 and 600+ 30 psi
but we were breaking loose on dyno above 30psi so readings suck.

Yeah this is just typical of big turbos, I tuned a T76 Supra with P Trim and 1.15 rear housing and it was at 0 psi all the way up almost 5k rpm !!! From 5.5k to 7k it was nuts
Did an 11.8 on street legal tires with stock auto and std weight.
Big turbo's are sweet so long as you know how to drive em

It sounds like im going to need a Flintsones tire in my first gen if i run more that 20psi. haha Thanks for your responces, im working on squeezing a 245 50 in the rear of this thing.
