T61 dyno
362 rwhp, 298 rwtq @ 15 psi ~ 11.9 afr
323 rwhp, 280 rwtq @ 13 psi ~ 11.2 afr
relevant mods that helped:
T61 1.15a/r exhaust
HKS cast manifold & racing wastegate
jacobs ignition & 10.5 plugs
street port
relevant mods that hurt:
- crush bent and dented (to fit new wastegate) downpipe
and i just noticed on the way home looking at the charts it looks like the driver let off at 7250 rpm and the graph looks as though it is still continuing to make power....who knows
but with the port i would suspect that it would
anyways....here is the chart....feel free to comment on it as you see fit
---------EDIT---------
the file is too huge even though the picture is really small...i'll try to figure something out later and post it then

Small picture size but huge file size probably means the picture is in bitmap format (bmp). Change it to a jpg or a gif. It will cut the file size down to about 1/10th the original. If you don't know how to do this, email me the picture and I can do it and post it for you.

hey nic,
did you expect those numbers or were you hoping for more hp? i know you said what hurt was the crushed dp, but your car is definatly capable of more hp than that, what do you plan to do now with your mods, or how can you raise that number?

I would expect more than that. A T-61 is a larger turbo than a T04S and a couple of people have dyno'ed near 400 or over @ 1 bar.
What are the other specs on the turbo besides trim?

ohh.... did i forget to mention my cracked apex seal from my little spike to 20+ psi a few weeks earlier???
hannah, the engine was on a downward spiral after that spike and when you rode in it.
it should have made at least 420 rwhp @ 15 psi
motor went to **** shortly after that post
hollow exhaust note
10 in vacuum
spike in vacuum upon testing....
i will be taking it out and replacing the seal probably next month.
what to learn from this:
-- dont use HKS standard wastegate on good ported motor
-- heat wrap your wastegate pressure lines
-- nic has no good luck
-- if things are going good, that just means that the bad joujou is having more time to gain momentum

why?
no reason to b/c of the symptoms stated above and the quick test i did after parking the car
i can see a definite spike on the rear rotor on the boost gauge just by turning the motor over with the EGI fuse removed and removing a leading plug
the pulses coming out of the empty spark plug hole SOUND ok, but the gauge doesnt lie....this is exactly the same symptoms i got last time when i kept driving the car and the seal completely blew out (obviously)

p.s. give my cell phone a call sometime tomorrow

just for kicks, here is the dyno plot
the quality kinda sucks and we're not sure why there is an afr difference on this dyno between the 2 boost settings and there wasnt when we were tuning the car...

ya, i'm still pissed i'm having to tear into the thing again....it was a really good motor.
I might try and hit up the dyno again in march or april sometime - i'll probably revive this thread to post the results into

Suganuma,
So let me get this right, you pop'd the motor before going to the dyno??? If thats the case 362rwhp is pretty amazing don't cha-think? It does suck when they blow though.....

i overboosted the car a couple of weeks before the dyno. it spiked to about 23 psi on 93 octane which is good to around 17 psi. Everything seemed to be ok with the vacuum still around 13-14 in at idle, but there were times when the car would act a little funny and people told me that there was a lot of smoke coming out of the exhaust. I thought that maybe possibly I had some good luck and nothing broke, but realized that something was wrong when i dynoed. I didnt really notice the drop in power b/c i hadnt really driven the car very hard after it spiked. When i drove the car later in the day after the dyno i did a run at 15 psi just screwing around on the highway and it stumbled like something was wrong with the ignition timing - i pushed the clutch in and noticed my vacuum was at 10 inches and tried to let the car roll itself back home as much as i could.
this same thing happened last time the motor went out on me. it acted like things were still ok with the vacuum for a while and then one day it just got worse. the seal cracked and so its still ok to a point. say 7 psi...but at 10 psi it wont feel too much different than 7psi. anyways, last time the motor was going bad i did the same test and got almost the same results as what i am getting now - i can see a peak in the boost gauge when removing one of the leading plugs, but you dont really hear a huge difference in the pulses coming out of the empty spark plug hole.
the test told me that something was up with my rear rotor as i get a spike in the boost guage when the front leading plug is removed. but when i took out the rear plug it looked wet like it was firing. so i put in my 9s that i was running before and the engine just doesnt want to start. i almost thought that maybe it was just an ignition problem, but the peak in the gauge and the low dyno numbers make me once again think that the seal is cracked. I could probably get it to start, but i dont want to risk turning the motor over anymore and having any little peices of seal in the housing ******* up the porting. last time when i kept driving it, it ended up taking out a rotor housing AND a cast housing. $$$$

Hard to say what actually happend, but I would think You'd be making more hp than what you dyno'd, not that 362 is bad at all, but you get my drift...
I blew one motor about 6 years ago but that was my fault.... darn fuel cut off!

first time - one of the injector connectors for a 1600cc injector came off
this time - overboost b/c of a wastegate line frying itself, but still allowing the wastegate to open along with a too-small wastegate
i guess i should really start to learn really well how to rebuild these things.......

Ya that would do it if the injector connector was off....ouch! I have 1680's too. when you run that kind of boost those babies need to be 110%......not duty cycle but 110% functioning I have a Wolf EMS stand alone puter and its one big balancing act getting the A/R dialed in huh?
I rebuilt my only blown motor with FD guru Kevin "ASP" Wyum back in 96, he lives close to me (thank god).... We ported it out and did the normal rebuld things, but when I took mine apart I couldn't believe the damage that was done when I pop'd that rear seal.... I had to buy a new housing and rotor, but Kevin put together a great motor... I overheated it so bad once @ Brainard's road course ( BIR) I didn't think it would ever be the same..but after it cooled off I filled it back up and it had the same boost as it always did I probably just got lucky... anyway, its a good time to learn how now...Its January so what else do you have to do ?

i have to design and build a race car for school....
i've got plenty of other work to do unfortunately
if i get some time i have an old 13B someone got out of some type of van in storage that i got for $200. I figured it would be fun to take apart and maybe rebuild or something.
for right now though, i'm concentrating more on school....gotta graduate and get outta this prison!!
