Question Some dumb legal questions....by me

hey everyone, i live in NJ..and i need some feedback on my question. now i been reading into different setups and parts for the rx7 and some have alittle side note stating "OFF ROAD USE ONLY" Now my question is, does this mean you can't pass emissions with these certain parts on? is there any possible way that when you do try to pass emissions, too some how make it pass with flying colors with some tweaking? Like for example certain products like the hks titanuim exhaust or the to4r turbo kit...they all state for off road use only... can anyone help me clear up this confusion im having...
thanks

Well the single turbo kit obvously will not pass emissions if it is put on a rx7. The exhaust... well I would think it still would. Just bring an extra couple hundred to the emissions testing station....

For sure you'll pass with flying colors then.

Besides that try running high octane gas for a while and then really heating the car up on the way to the emissions station so it is running clean.

1. Some single turbo kits allow use of the airpump (HKS and Apexi), which means you could pass the emissions test just fine.

2. A cat-back exhaust has zero to do with emissions. The only reason a cat-back exhaust would be labelled "for off-road use only" is that is REALLY FRICKING LOUD.

3. Higher octane gas has no effect on emissions, but getting the catalytic converter up to temp does.

Sniffle7:

Removing emissions equipment is against federal law. A downpipe or midpipe removes emissions and therefore is technically, not street legal. It depends on your state's emissions testing, if any, so research your area's laws. Some states like California have a visual and smog test, some states only do a smog test, and some states only do a visual. Some states do NOTHING. It depends on where you live.

No, Higher octane has a lower flash point. Alchohol burns cleaner, and has a higher flash point, but it also destroys anything rubber... and is corrosive..

have you guys ever used alcohol to pass the sniff test. my uncle failed the sniff test on his 85 12a and needs a quick fix to have it pass before he goes out of state next week. any info such as where to get the alcohol and how much to mix would be appreciated. thanks

I used alchohol, I got it at Ace Hardware in the paint stripper section labled Denatured Alcohol and it costs about $9/gallon. I put 2 gallons into 5 gallons of gas and passed with flying colors. Be sure to drive it off quickly and refill to dilute it becuase it's rough on your rubber seals etc since alcohol binds with h20.
