smoke on decel only

New turbo, rebuilt engine but I get a large cloud of smoke and that nasty burning oil smell after a hard pull and I let off the gas. I thought it was coming from my old turbo, as my car has done this ever since I went single turbo but this turbo is brand spanking new and I still get it.
Any ideas?

Make sure the sump is vented and not geting pressurized.

This can be a common problem (may not be yours though?) either on the intermediate plate or on the oil filler tube make sure you have one stub pipe opening "vented" to atmosphere (you can simply run a piece of hose upwards and attach a small filter to it) this will ensure that "any" blowby has a chance to escape, there by allowing the turbo return line to function properly and not cause other problems.

Try that out, and see how you go.

Or he might have a stuck corner seal or bad side seals....just another possibility....

Thanks,
I'll start with the easiest... vent the crankcase and see what happens.

Pluto or others,

If one has a stuck corner seal or bad side seal would the exhaust smoke come from burning oil inside the motor or excessive pressurization of the crank preventing the turbo from draining back to the sump?

If it results in burning oil in the motor, would inspection of the spark plugs show anything?

Hey, I put in the breather and what do you know? No more smoke! What a dumbass I can be. There is a tube that is supposed to run over to the air cleaner that T's in where the pcv goes, I capped it off when I went single turbo, hence all the smoke ever since. No place for all that pressure to go so oil was just building up behind the pvc and when I decel, it would all suck right in the intake manifold. Duh...
Thanks again,
Cliff
