I was testing somethings on my 7 and I decided to test my wastegate. When I applied pressure to the bottom port the valve seems to work well but the I can hear/feel a little bit of air escaping. I was wondering if this was normal or not.

My HKS wastegate would leak boost after the valve started to lift. I could pump it up with a hand pump and it would hold pressure until the valve started to lift, difficult to get it to open fully due to the high leak rate.

 

once it started to leak would it stop leaking at any particular psi or did it continue to loose pressure until 0 psi?

 

It would lose pressure until the valve reseated, below it's spring pressure setting.

I inquired about this on the forum, from speed shops and even the OEM ... everyone said it was normal for the HKS. I would not buy another one of their wastegates because of this crap, cannot be good for boost control IMHO.

 

It still seems to be very responsive but just hear a tiny leak.

 

If it's leaking, it's possible you're seeing more boost @ the manifold than is getting seen / compensated @ by the wastegate spring....

I know that my boost gauge (defi) is off by 1lb since the spring and the 3Bar map sensor read 10 Psi, and the gauge reads 9 psi

 

I would check the diaphragm.

It will leak if the bolts are not tight to seal the diaphragm

 

i had to put an o-ring on the adjustment screw to get leaking to stop.

my leak was so bad. . . the spring wouldnt even BEGIN to open until 15psi and it was wideopen at 22psi. it was amazing. . . brand new. anyways, put the o-ring in and everything was good to go.

Paul ... what adjustment screw is there on the bottom side of your wastegate? There was none on my HKS wg.
