Wastegate Placement?

If you have pictures please post them. Well I'm getting ready to get my exhaust manifold made and was wondering what is the ideal placement of the wastegate. I'm really limited in space as I have a datsun 1200 and already cut the inner fenderwell to make room for the turbo. I was looking at some of the manifold disigns that others have and alot of them have the wastegate turned back towards the rear and I was thinking if there is any disadvantage of having the exhaust gases having to make a 90 degree turn to get to the wastegate.

There is a disadvantage, but it is usually outweighed by the disadvantage of not being able to fit the manifold+wastegate in the car if you don't have the turn. Since you've been looking at some designs, I am sure you have seen that there is some variety.

as far as placement on the manifold, I have heard that the closer to the turbine the better.. If you can make it all equal length, even better.

Most of the setups I have seen put the wastegate on the inside closer to the engine and route it back. And I have seen one guy actually put it on the housing, hot side, on the outside towards the inner fender. Now I was thinking if I could put it on the manifold on the outside, towards the inner fenderwell, and vent it out infront of the front tire. I already cut the inner fenderwell for clearance of the turbo because like I said I have a datsun 1200 and I'm limited in space. I was thinking of this position because I've seen setups with the wastegate put beween the radiator hoses and to me it just seems too close and alot more heat on that side of the engine bay. I haven't seen anyone placing the wastegate on the outside of the manifold towards the fenderwell and I would like to do this but I haven't seen anyone do it so I was wondering if there are any disadvantages to this setup. I'm going to push boost upwards of 28psi, strictly dragrace car, and just would like to have the best possible placement to have good boost control. And the boost controller I'm using is the Innovative MSBC-1 best boost controller I could find out there and would like to have good flow to the wastegate which is a Tial 46mm. I don't want boost creep especially at high boost pressures.
