re other adding other turbos to the test.

i am interested in evaluating the Precision billets and am familiar w what they have accomplished in EVO-land. i do think that 4 will be the limit for this test. my guess is it will take a couple of back to back days on the dyno to do the 4. as mentioned previously, i want to do a max tune at one bar, at 20 psi and at max boost on each turbo.

let's get thru the 4 turbos and perhaps schedule another session depending on how things go.

i will publish all relevant data on each turbo at the 3 boost levels. that includes a backpressure versus boost chart, egts as well as SAE HP and TQ. my guess is once we get the map set for the larger meth injectors the tune will work for all 4 turbos w very minor adj but it will take a half day to get it set and that's assuming no problems along the way.

the eng/trans is now in and we are moving forward.

hotside on my 4094 is 1.06

trailered the car 90 miles N to Beyond Redline in Green Bay.... the site of the dyno project.

the motor is not quite running at the moment but Luke and the boys will finish the intercooler tubes, downpipe(s), relocate the blow off valve and some odds and ends that need to be done properly. i am driving back up tomorrow and meeting Luke at 9 a m to go over what needs to be done which gives us an hour together before BR opens...

i hope it is finished by this weekend and that will give me much of next week to finish a few items and then it is game on.

would you feel offended if I used your manifold design as a basis for my own? I know you said you were considering selling them but I don't think I want to play the wait and see game.

I have the FP HTA3586R sitting in my basement too bad it's not a T4 or it would be nice to see the results against the other competitors you have lined up.

Off subject but my project is getting close to completion!

"would you feel offended if I used your manifold design as a basis for my own?"

thanks for asking and, no i wouldn't feel offended. i have a pic file of turbo manifolds that i accumulated over the years and to some extent modeled my manifold after various features i liked here and there.

"FP HTA3586R"
Robert Young/Forced Performance produces some very intriguing turbos what w his billet wheels... maybe we do a runoff between a T4 version and the upcoming Garrett billet GT35r?

i am very excited as i buzzed back up to Beyond Redline early this morn and had a lengthy session w Luke and his master fab brother Adam. lots of good stuff being done in the next week in prep for the session. pics when avail.

thanks howard, I know how some people feel about what they deem as "their" intellectual property. if you do end up selling manifolds for a price I can swallow before I get around to getting it built I may just buy from you. I'll keep an eye open.

i may call my Garrett contact to see if he can find a 2011 GT35 w a billet compressor that i know must surely exist. i would bet money it will be at SEMA. wouldn't that be fun?

1.06 T4 divided is what it needs. You should definitely ask your friend if you can borrow his.

The GTX35R would be nice, but they are so slow to get things moving, they keep moving the release date out. My contact is anticipating spring release for the smaller units, maybe even summer

Let get a T4 housing for it and add it to the test!

i would assume we could just swap the 106 from the gt3582r. sounds interesting and fairly doable. hmmm

I just found out that FP has added the following turbos to their line up:

The Forced Performance GT3794HTA turbocharger is the next step beyond the GT3586HTA in power production within the GT35R footprint. It combines the greater turbine flow found in the GT37 with the 90lb/min flow rating of the 94mm HTA compressor. The compressor wheel measures 67.5mm inducer and 94mm exducer. The turbine wheel measures 72.5mm inducer and 66.5mm exducer.
This unit has a standard GT35R configuration, so it can easily replace an existing GT35R without modifying the header or manifold. It is available in either 3" vband or 3" bolt outlet. No other turbine housing options are available at this time.

This turbocharger is recommended for applications running 40psi boost pressure that target the 800-900whp range. The GT3794HTA has exceeded 900whp easily during testing as well has running 8's in the quarter mile with trap speeds in excess of 160mph.

Just soo many new options out there only issue with this turbo is it only comes in a T3 .82 housing as of right now which is strange but if I know FP the T4 is on its way.

"compressor wheel measures 67.5mm inducer and 94mm exducer."

since my GT4094r measures 67.8 X 94 i am going to call the GT3784HTA a very close cousin to the GT4094r. which makes 80 lbs absolute tops. that's 800 piston and 603 rotary SAE rwhp.

it has been demonstrated that properly engineered billet wheels do make more air. the proof is many dyno and ontrack upticks as well as Garrett's GTX (impressive) compressor maps.

hotside... 72.5 X 66.5 5.879 av sq inches area. Very close to a P trim at 5.89 sq inches.

my GT4094r is 6.423.

since it is a T3... the normal largest T3 wheel is stage 5 which is 61.9 X 71 or 5.408 sq inches. i ran two of them on my twin setup w 82 housings.

maybe this turbo, like many of the billet turbos, really works at very high boost levels... one of my deals is that i am not interested in boost levels above 27 psi.

my car is a dual purpose car, i am not interested in 9 second quarters, i am interested in efficiently making under 600 rwhp and making 400 SAE at 5500. don't get the idea i am not interested in ringing the bell, my ports make max torque at 6500.

it is just that if you run above the 600 mark you need a number of internal engine mods that are of no interest to me and additionally the car becomes so crazy fast on the street that it slips over into crazyness.

that's just me.

if you want north of 600 go for it. i am just saying for me, i really don't have an interest.

and, BTW, if you haven't driven a 500+ SAE hp FD i suggest you do before deciding to build a dual purpose 600+ FD.

the only reason i am building my GT4094r configuration is for one event, the Texas Mile which, IMO, requires 600 to do the 200 number. i am going to be very interested to compare hp under the curve for the 4094 V the other turbos.

Please don' t get the impression that is what I am looking for either, that is why i stuck with the 3586. I do not need 600+ whp and i have driven my buddy's 505whp rx7 and it was plenty fast.

Frankly, a "mere" 400rwhp FD is ridiculously fast!!

Howard, any ETA on when the dyno tests will take place?

just returned from Beyond Redline. the new exhaust is finished, most of the IC tubes are complete and Adam is working on the (modular) downpipes for the 4 turbos. once finished at BR, i have a few days of final fixturing and then it is good to go.

this all assumes no mechanical surprises of course. i understand the interest in the schedule but in the real world there is no "date."

it will be on the dyno ASAP. i can assure all i am more interested in getting the project rolling than you are.

Howard, as far as finding a billet35r, i was browing the evo forums and someone mentioned a billet 35r by PTE the 6235R.

As far as I know, Shearer Fabrication sells this billet 35r/6235 and its price seema a bit decent. And if i am reading their page right, it only costs $500 to upgrade a current 35r to the billet variant.

Although the turbine a/r sizing is a bit small .82 is the largest they have.

Heres the page of the turbo in question;
