Ah yes, for this test it should definitely be a PFC. I meant for Howard's personal use, since he does have a lot of other high end parts. But then that is off topic

How about we let Howard complete this test and then we can see the out comes. This is a time consuming task and I appreciate the fact that he is undertaking such an event.

TB elbow

here is my setup for that factory FD elbow, pic, i personally felt it favored the outside flow to the TB.

so i made this piping and plenum box ,that has a unique interior air horn into the TB.

water to air as per-usual stuff, bar and plate core.

best part is great response and mid range torque, turbo is and old T4 diesel unit, so top end suffers some on air flow.

NOW this all happened 10yrs ago. still runs great, but i dont beat on it like i used to.

Ron

HEY whats goin on ,,no attach pix??

ran into a snag today. i am running my one piece NRS ceramic apex seals and found only 2.4 and 2.7 thou clearance to the housings... need min of 3.5. so they are two day to Edmonton where Sven will take a thou or two off their length. this also presents an opportunity to custom set them to each housing.

they may be back friday or at the latest monday. the dyno and turbos are rusting

oh well.

You run into a lot of snags. Seems like a lot of trouble to please your own curiosity. At this point I'd just be happy to have a running car!

If you send me the turbos Ill put them on my own car and get it on the dyno this weekend It'll provide you with another angle for comparison.

dropped my motor off at Beyond Redline today. it will be in the car tomorrow and i should be able to finish it up thursday.

looks like we may be able to directly log into the dyno much of what i log thru the Datalogit
auxiliaries which will allow better data sharing in the thread.

looks like we are ready to fire it up monday.

i have reshuffled the turbo evaluation order. i will be starting w the GT3574 and then the BW S300s (363).

from post one re these two turbos...

"GT3574
features the aforementioned GT35 compressor wheel, w a journal bearing and a much larger turbine wheel.... 5.89 sq inches or 92% of the compressor. let's really find out about journal bearing spool V ball bearing and also compare backpressure given the differing hotside wheels.

Borg Warner S300s (363).
there are a bunch of S3XX BWs. this turbo is just a touch smaller than the TO4z. the compressor is 6.946 sq inches V 7.007. the compressor is quite different than the Z as to trim, having a smallish 63 inducer V the TO4z at 66.7. Trim is 52 V 63. smaller Trims promote spool. the turbo can put out over 70 pounds per minute so it should make 550 but have great midrange. that's the theory."

in order to speed things up since we have alot of turbos to do (including the GTX3582) Luke will probably do some of the dynoing without me riding shotgun. while it will seem a little weird my presence isn't really required... as much as i would like to think so

i am heading out to the Texas Mile thursday. anyone nearby i would love to meet. i will be there saturday (March 26) only.

we did fire it up today. i was going to drive it home (90 miles) but it seems a snow storm is moving in tonight so it is parked. a few details tomorrow and we have dyno time scheduled for wed. the motor has new rotor bearings and i did want to put a few miles on it but we will settle for a few heat cycles...

enjoy Texas Howard, I was just down there for TX2K11 and didn't want to come home. Feel free to drool over the Underground Racing Twin Turbo Gallardos, there were 8 of them last weekend, I wouldn't be surprised if a similar number showed up at the Mile.

thanks for the tip. i will be quite int'd in the hardware...

Green Bay is getting over 15 inches of snow today and i didn't hear from them so i assume they finished up a few odds and ends. i will be back sun eve and will, if i get my eyeballs uncrossed from the 2600+ mile trip be up at Beyond Redline either mon or tues and i would expect we will be finally back on the rollers.

off the net and off to Texas.
