Hi...

I have just broken 2 apex seals in my FD. I have a complete To4R set up with everything needed.

I have heard that the apex seals from a RX8 is working in a Fd.. Is that right...???

If so, is it better than the FD´s apex or which apex seals should i go for...???

The Rx8 seals are not designed for rotary engines with peripheral exhaust ports. They will warp because of the extra heat they have to deal with in that area.

Personaly I would go with the improved Rotary Aviation seals. They are strong and cheap.

 

The rx8 seals are not as tall and there for will not work

 

I've heard great things about the rotary aviation seals as well. But it's all been rumors and hear-say. Does anyone have experience with them personally that could tell me about them? The only other thing I would suggest is Ianetti ceramics, but those are gonna set you back some serious cash!! Although, I don't see what's wrong with stock 2mm seals. I have seen plenty of POWERHOUSES that run on the stock apex seals. Just my take on things.

I have had this problem also with the new 2mm mazda seals. (fashioned after the rx-8 seals)

Jon over at RX engineering was telling me that the Rotary Aviation seals are garbage he has treid them a few times with poor results. I'm pretty sure those were the ones, I have used the new two peice seals in a few motors including mine and like them, I haven't had any problems with them yet, we will see how they hold up over time.I'm not sure if these are the sme ones you guys are referring to though.

 

RX8 seals are made using carbon which will not handle the heat a turbo rotary will have.
