I'm having the dp fixed locally since mine was one of the first batch. I am sure they have fixed the downpipe now. I think the test-fit car had a weird midpipe or something like that.

I am also having the WG dump tube routed to the dowpipe locally. I am really doing it for noise rather than SMOG purposes. My car is not going to be SMOG legal no matter what I do with the dump tube.

From what I understand it wouldn't matter about the dump tube. Once the tech sees a single turbo under the hood you would automatically fail the test. Am I wrong with that assumption?

No single turbo is legal with the stupid California SMOG check program. You will be failed on the visual test, even if your car's exhaust is clean. The CA SMOG check program is ineffective and attempts to unjustly limit the freedom of citizen hot-rodders. Emissions testing for individual motorists in general seems like a very exepensive and environmentally ineffective program to me. People naturually want and buy new cars -- set standards for manufacturers (hey, you're already doing that -- GREAT!) and let nature take its course. I rejoiced when they discontinued the program where I used to live in Oakland County, MI after finding that it was ineffective and just pissed people off. (NOTE TO POLITICIANS: I WILL VOTE FOR YOU IF YOU STOP THE TESTING OF INDIVIDUAL MOTORISTS CARS FOR EMISSIONS). Emsissions testing programs are an enormous waste of everyone's time and money and just give people another reason to hate their government.

Okay, enough ranting. Sorry about that.

I imagine the dump tube routing could be a factor in places with the slightly-more-sane-than-CA, sniffer-only testing. Since the dump tube would be dumping exhaust before the cat, it would dump dirty air. If you route it into the downpipe, all the exhaust would flow through the cat (assuming you are running one) and out the tailpipe where the sniffer is located.

So what kind of Hp is this thing supposed to put down at say 15 psi on pump gas? What kind of spool up time? Looking for a single turbo and this is a pretty cheap one!

Demetrios tested his car and achieved over 450 rwhp at that boost level:

Everyone has told its one of the easiest to rebuild cheaply if need be. Should be reliable though. Skip at KDR told me I'm the first one they've put a R85 in and is really curious as to what its going to do. I'm pretty excited.

That's what I did. I had my heart set on a T78 until I read more about the R85 and GT40R. Eventually I decided on the R85. Either way I would hurry about order something because a lot of turbo kits are going on backorder. The T78 already is.

Well damn, its a good thing I found this thread before I bought the T-78. What is the spool up time on the R-85? Does the kit come with everything I need?

The KG parts page listed earlier shows you what you get. I've heard spool time is a little quicker than a T78 if you have a street port. I would get the kit if I was you because well basically I was you a month ago and I've gone the R85 route.

I have the GReddy two row. Right now my fuel system is up in the air a little. Skip at KDR is telling me the 1680's are plenty with the stock primaries but I kind of want to put 850s in the primary rail but he says that's too much. So I'm still ironing that out.

IF I was in the market for a single turbo, I would wait to see some dyno results before putting some hard earn $$$$ on the line. This is one tight fitting kit. The turbine housing has about 3/8 clearrance from the firewall.

Get the T-78 at least it doesn't have fitment issues and is engineered well.

I'm thinking a couple weeks until my car is back. So if you want to take a ride in it or something to see what its like when its done then I'll be more than happy to.
