quick spooling turbo?

need ideas on which turbo to get.. I am needing a turbo that will spool up around 3000rpm (+/- 500rpm) that is still cappable of producing a reliable 430hp at the wheels and hold the power till redline... this is for a daily driver so thats why im needing good spool time..

PS. I have done searches and i seen gt35 and 60-1 turbos but cant get any info on spool times..

my motor is not ported.

GT35RL......this is a big ball bearing turbo that is popular among WRX and DSM guys. iv'e heard awesome things about it. on the WRX's they've been handling 24psi daily and putting down 450+awhp and around 470whp on two wheel drive.

If your motor is not ported then you need to run a larger turbo to reach 430 RWHP. That means more lag and full boost around 4500 RPM. No real way to get around that on a stock motor.

really?? I always thought they killed the life of an engine? but doing a hbp on a motor and running say a 60-1 turbo ought to net me pretty decent spool up time and decent streetable setup! but killer upperend power!

It depends how you drive the car. It doesn't hurt the motor, you do.

A full bridgeport is not streetable. A half bridge to some people (myself) is streetable. If you want something honestly streetable... get a streetport

well, ya see my car wont be on the street much at all.. i plan on putting on 2500 miles a year roughly, so streetable to me is prob going to be different to someone else.. I just want a nasty idle, and killer power when i get over 4500rpm! if i can do that with a streetport then all means ill go that route but, im thinkin a half will prob do me well..

If you havent done anything to the engine, I suggest you should before going to the high HP, but alot of people here still have stock motor and they are at 400 to the wheels, on my research, you could run safe street car using these kinds of turbo's: HKS T51R , Apex-i RX6B IHI, R85 or the 500R. goodluck on your street set-up and make sure you at least upgrade the neccesary supporting mods ( fuel, ignition, Intercooler, ETC..) on a high HP youre trying to achieve.

I don't see the point on daily driving a bridgeport. Unless you want 3 speeding tickets on the way to work whats the point? Many people have made over 600whp on a streetport...

And unfortunately for you, you're going to go through a SHITLOAD of fuel!

A nice stainless divided manifold will help spool up a lot, and ballbearing doesn't hurt, but stock ports may present a problem for spool if you really want that power level.

That is TOTALLY WRONG.....

The amount of fuel you use is directly dependent on the right foot.

On my HBP i can get about 26-28mpg on the highway but when the foot is down, probably 10mpg

Where did you put the turbo if you're getting 26-28mpg? I can't even manage to get 150miles to a tank of fuel...???

I found city mileage suffered with a 1/2 bridge

Which stands to reason.........I look at the gentely tuned streetport map for my setup (same fueling as with the 1/2BP) and my idle ranges are all noticeably lower duration then the half bridge map. But that is also a product of the 1/2's inability to idle below 1K rpm.

When cruising though its an un-measurable difference in my experience.

To the OP:

You're chasing a nearly unattainable setup. Spool and ultimate power output are balanced on opposite ends of the scale, increase one - decrease the other. Its not as black and white as I put it, but very close.

As mentioned the closest you'll come to those numbers is witha GT35R and a streetport. Full boost around 3500 and easily over 400whp.

Hey Chuck, what bridgeport template are you using? I hope you don't think I'm arguing with you... You're a smart guy and I've asked you for your opinion many times. I need a nice bridgeport template! Take me to pm mode buddy
