question about the screen on the turbo inlet
why some people put screens in the turbo inlet instead of a filter? i was always wondering about that why? thanks
Screen over turbo inlet I can only assume is to stop the turbo from injesting large debre that could damage the turbo and / or engine. Running without a filter is just plain stupid, even on the track unless you like rebuilding turbos and adding additional wear to an engine for less then 5hp gain. I've taken apart several turbos that had not been run with air filters. I can tell which turbo had and didnt have a filter. The inside of the compressor vanes and the defusser inside the housing and backplate always look like it got sand blasted when no filter is run. NOT GOOD for the turbo or the engine. You'll also be suprised how much that screeen restricts air flow also.
