turbo,
Try it.
The GTR intercooler is good for 500hp mounted upwright. Your only looking for 350. Get what I am saying. I don't understand the differance between the intercooler being near the hood or near the ground. Make some nice ducting to direct the air where you need it to go. call me stupid call me hard headed.
If I listened to everyone telling me "you can't boost more then 8spi on 9.4 rotors" or " T3 turbos are to small for a 13b" I would have never run 11.7 at 121mph at 19psi. This was almost 5 years ago. Now look what some are saying.

I just installed a 31x12x4 front mount on the FD. Now the water temp is higher. Made some ducting from the intercooler to the radiator, helped/worked.

Being here in Japan and seeing alot of differant v-mount systems, I cant see why yours wont work. Just make some nice ducting. Get a air temp gauge and let us know. I bought a nice air temp gauge from coolingmist.com. Works great.

Turbo-Polak, I really couldn't tell you if your IC is too big or small without a LOT more info than you've given:

-intake temps, before IC (this is the one that I don't have a clue on. I'd guess you're looking at over 400F, possibly hotter. The outside of my FD's ceramic-coated downpipe reads over 400F on my IR temp meter)
-desired intake temps, after IC (can't get any colder than ambient)
-air speed flowing across IC (Howard Coleman said the airspeed on his FD setup was very low, like 4-6 mph without a vented hood and 6-10 with hood vents)
-temperature of ambient air flowing across IC (need to work with the hottest temps you'll ever see. Remember that the air 3" above the pavement is often hotter than the air 30" above the pavement. 100+ is possible depending on your location).

With all that data, I could ask a mechanical engineer friend of mine to calculate an intercooler core size needed, if you can get some data from the IC manufacturer.

Seriously though, you might want to just build your setup and see if it works. It might work just fine for your application. Most of what I mentioned in my first few posts was assuming your IC was seeing a decent amount of airflow, for instance speeds above 50mph.

Chuck, that's a very big FMIC, compared to the tiny little thing that came stock on the FD. How much did coolant temps increase? How much boost is the car running?

i just finished making the brackets for it as a front mount....

im going to try it mounted up front, and have as much ducting as i can to the rad......i was just most concerned about the water temps, then the air temperature... as my biggest goal is not high hp at high speeds, but more reliable hp (most likely being less than desired) at lower speeds, while having lower water temperatures.... (damn rotaries!)

Actually, this will work if you ever seen the old F1 cars they had the cores horizontal and relied only on low pressure to feed air through, could you do better with the space provided? Yes. Should you. If you got the time, yes.

the factory comp book had an oil cooler mounting like that, they also have you build a duct.

thing is they use a shorter radiator, i think you want the air coming out of the intercooler NOT to come out under the car.
