No Power From TO4E

Hi Guys,

I have just dumped in a series 4 mild port 13b engine in, with a garrett TO4E turbo additional 4 injectors and microtech MT-8, the engine is running on 10psi of boost now, but it seems rather sluggish and under-powered. My stock hitachi turbo felt more powerful than this. Why is this so? Is it because the turbo is too laggish? Pls help

Best Regards,
Francis

I assume you have checked for leaks, and propper operation of the WG? Is the turbine clipped at all? I had a T04 Hybrid with a clipped turbine wheel that performed like ****. I am inthe process of having the wheel replaced to confirm that's the issue. Just a thought.

By run like **** do you mean boost came up to slow? A clipped exhaust wheel will flow more up top without hurting spool time as much as moving to a larger exhaust wheel and/or housing.

Francis, there must be something wrong somewhere.
I have the HKS TO4E with a mild street port, Power FC...and it spools very quick and the car is very fast.
I had my car Dyno tuned at Rotary Performance by Chris and it produced 360 rwhp and 305 rwtq at 1 bar.
Injectors duty cycles at 80%.
The ride and idle is very smooth now and start building boost at 2800rpm.
Check for vaccum leaks, boost controler conections, binding turbo wheels, wastegate stuck open and your tuning maps(fuel, ignition).
Good luck

4 additional injectors? If you are untuned then you might be damn near flooding the engine. That may very well have something to do with why the car is running like ****. Just a thought though. Hopefully more people that have more knowledge than myself will chime in about my comment.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the info. Anyway, my turbine fin has been changed from the original TO4E, to a slightly larger one with clipped fins. I am getting 10psi@6000+rpm, my external wastegate is a trust item, additinonal injectors will only kick in after 14.7psi. I am running a mild port will 2mm Hurley seals. This engine was taken out from my first gen rx7, which is only used for the drags. Well, it was fast in that car, but not in the FC. Could it be due to the weight difference?

Thanks
Francis

Same turbo/motor was fast in another car? Are you using the same ECU and map, fuel system(fuel pressure affects tuning)? If not, I would say tuning.

Hi Guys,

The turbo's fins were already clipped when it was in the FB. Anyway, I will be having it re-tuned this weekend. What boost levels should I be looking at to keep it safe and also provide me some decent power? I will be running on 98octane, as compared to the high octane which I did use for the drags @1.4bar boost. Blew my seals a couple of times, this is my third & last engine which I have transplanted in, so I cannot afford to blow this one too. So hope you guys got some advises for me.

Thanks & Best Regards,
Francis
