Question Newb needs help identifying a Turbo

Hello All, I am an FD newb and have recently acquired an exceptional 3rd gen. I'll formally introduce and post pics when I get them, However right now I have a bit of a problem that's preventing from enjoying my new pride and joy. The only information I have on the car is what I can see and what the old owner could give me and he didn't know dik about cars.

The car has been converted to a single Turbo, apparently very well done, with mostly HKS components. The turbo is allegedly a T60. I Checked around and Garrett makes a GT60 however they recommend it for 6.0l to 12.0l engines up to 2000hp, I seriously doubt it's that one. The compressor housing is painted red and has no stampings or markings on it. The red paint is cracking from the heat but not flaking off so I assume someone painted it after they bought it. The exhaust turbine housing is heat wrapped, but from what I can see also has no markings. Considering it's surrounded by an HKS Exhaust Manifold, MidPipe, 3" Downpipe and Catback, I assume it might be an HKS bolt on kit.

I need to find out what kind of Turbo this is because I blew out the Midpipe to Turbo Gasket and need to get a new one. I spent all this money on a car that looks like a bad-*** sports car and sounds like a '65 Beetle with no exhaust. I am including pics of the Turbo and one of the car, hoping someone recognizes it. I appreciate any help you guys give me.

I almost forgot to mention, on the back-side of the compressor housing I found some alpha-numeric characters: A - G2 - 20 (or 2D?) - 66

Each pair was seperated by strengthening ribs cast into the housing. I of-course searched and came up with nothing.

You'll have to take it apart and measure the wheels (both compressor and turbine's major and minor diameters) if you want to know what it is.

No offense man, but that engine bay looks half assed. Not sure why they even bothered heat wrapping the down pipe and turbine side. Its half way hanging off.

It's not that bad. The piping isn't show worthy and they took a little roll of heat wrap and stuffed it inbetween the exhaust side of the turbo setup and the high side of the AC lines cause it was too close. Other than that, the lines to the turbo are steel wrapped and they used good quality parts so I'm happy with it.

I was hoping I wouldn't have to take it apart. I'm assuming I need to measure the A/R of the housings and trim of the turbine and compressor wheels?

Just looking out for you. You can tell alot about a person from how well they up keep their car. Make sure you have a compression test done before you even think about moving forward. But yes you will need to take the covers off. You need to measure the diameter of the the inducer (small part) and the exducer (larger side) of the compressor and turbine wheels. Its actually better that you do so, that way you can inspect the turbo for any sort of damage (chips, oil seals).

That is a good idea, when I got the car, the turbo was exposed with no filter so who knows what it sucked in. No worries tho, If it is fubar then I'll fix or replace it.

Would you happen to know what the numbers are for normal compression on a 13B? Also, I assume a digital micrometer is a must when taking the Turbo measurments.

6.0 is the minimum, 8 being pretty much perfect. So the higher the number the better.
