My setup

Hey guys this is my setup that im going to put into my 1996 fd rx7, I had blew a water seal so I decided to make my dream engine.

The engine is just at the builders now getting huge stage ports on the plates with match exhaust porting. I have bought all brand seals for the engine from Mazda except for the apexs because they are still mint and two piece.
I bought a Garrett T04z ball bearing turbo, Turbosmart 48ml pro wastegate, Turbosmart T3 Megasonic BOV, Custom exhaust manifold all for $3500 thats cheap here in New Zealand. Im running bigger 850cc primarys and 1000cc secondarys injectors, I have got Pfc with hand controller, Huge front mount intercooler and a 52ml aluminium radiator with electric fan. We are aiming for 450-500 hp on 98 octane. Here are some pictures
Still alot of work to be done.

what I would give for the safety margin of 98 octane right out of the pump...how much is race gas????

the 1000cc secondaries might not get you there but then again, you guys get better octane so it should be ok...now us over here with 93(used to get 94 a few years back here in the northeast), 1600 is the rule and most of the time not enough.

congrats on the choice of mods, that T04Z should be more than enough!!!!!

Thats what i was thinking about the 1000cc being to small, but the dude building my engine for me seems to think that if i run 1600 they might be to big and not perform properly, he always say bigger is not better if you get a good combination of parts that work good together then you dont really need the big ones?

Maybe you should tell your builder how many people have 1600 sec injectors on this forum. Just about everyone in the single turbo section.

Here is the fuel calc from rx7.com, I would imagine it should be pretty close even if you run a higher octane.

Great choice in Turbo! What size A/R? 1000cc secodaries will work for that turbo, but you won't see barley any boost before you are out of fuel. Get the 1600's.

You're misinformed. Their gas is rated at 98 because the rating method is different, and safety margins are birthed by tuners NOT by octane ratings.

NZ spec 98 octane = US spec 93 octane

NZ uses the RON rating method while the US uses the average of RON and MON ratings which results in the US ratings to be 5-8 octane points lower. That is to say that 93 octane in the US is equivalent to 98 octane in New Zealand or Europe or wherever.

In regards to octane being a safety net for a bad tune: this is a fallacy. When you tune your car the tuner will determine the aggressiveness of the tune with regard to the octane you will be using. So, if your car gets tuned aggressively for 100+ octane fuel it is much more likely to detonate and destruct than a car tuned mildly for 93 octane fuel.
