if you want a torque brace on par w your turbo i suggest you contact forum member david garfinkle... (garco motorworks)

i had about 3/4 inch clearance on my setup and checked out most of the braces. i think david's brace is the best and is reasonably priced. he recently added a serious additional backplate that i installed last weeked. the inner the fender may come off but the torque brace will still be securely attached.

David's torque brace takes a major load off the motor mounts which are overstressed as they attach only the bottom of the motor. by supporting the top of the motor w the torque brace everything becomes happy.

add a set of nylon differential bushings, a set of nylon bushings to the front of your lower lattitudinal rear links and you will be able to put the power down.

you are going to need it w that turbo

good luck,

Any pictures of his brace , whaer are the attachment points ? , I will need a new one , something that will attach to the motor itself , maybe at the motor / bell housing joint.

I'm not afraid at all just some friendly advice. I have seen it happen. If you plan on putting any real power through that setup you need to do two things. Make sure the turbo doesn't smack the side of the engine compartment. You also need to brace the turbo itself to the block. If not you will get stress cracks from weight and vibration.

i thought davids brace can crack the inner fender because it is a solid mount brace not like rx ones with the shock. please correct me if i am wrong because i'm looking for a brace too. thanks

and can we get a pic of the new backing plate installed please

Nice, I'm anxious to see your dyno sheets and how well the manifold holds up. Two local guys (Eagle Talon / CRX) should be ready to roll out with their GT42 setups soon. Seeing the turbo in person is shocking.. I love it!

garfinkle engine torque brace:

i ran it all last year and prior to recently installing the backplate examined my inner fender carefully... no evidence of any stress. the brace does have some high durometer rubber at both ends. depending on the usage David adds or subtracts the rubber custom for you. the brace attaches to the motor at the correct spot... which is at the approx same spot longitudinally as the motor mounts... this minimizes torsional loading of the housings. it also mounts properly off the top of the motor to offset the motor mounts being at the bottom of the motor.

in my prior post i did make a mistake... i stated that 3 key mods needed to be made for high hp chassis... the engine brace, solid differential mounts and the front end of the lower rear longitudinal ( i said latitudinal) link.

Got a ride in AZ'sfastfd3s car yesterday. Not as much lag as I thought there would be. It pulls really hard and when the turbo spools it sounds like a giant f*cking vacume cleaner, sweet! Matt we need to video some pulls and post them here. Can anyone host some vids?

The car is running almost 14psi. It really needs to be tuned bad, the EGT's crusing are 440C. I cant wait to crank it to 20+ psi..

great looking setup man. had a question about the wastegates though. why did you go with twin 38's? Why not just use a large hks 50mm or run dual 44mm tials? I guess the twin 38's will be fine as long as you don't run leaded gas through them.

Well space is very tight with the 4 in DP. I think the 38's will do fine. I might run a little 116 octane at the track or tuning.

The 38mm has flanges. Those flanges leak. They love to leak. You have to deal with gaskets and or machining surfaces. Its also to small and you cant run leaded race gas with the 38mm valve. It will stick and then your boost will shoot up to who knows what. Tial includes a note in the box stating that you cant run leaded gas but they do have a race valve that will work.

With the 44mm gate you get V band mounts. They dont leak and they only use 1 bolt. You can also run all the leaded gas you want with the 44mm without issue.
