MSD coils on 13Brew OE ignition system?

Have any of you tried to use MSD Blaster coils (#8235) with NO amplification box? I ask because I am forced to use two digital 6s boxes and I have four 8235 coils. I was planning on running one box per coil for leading and just using stock trailing coils. But if I can run the other two MSD coils through the factory wiring, then I will. I just don't think it will work. I've done a lot of ignition systems throughout the years but I've never tryed to run MSD coils through the factory system..... which is why I am asking

Ideally I would be using 3 boxes, two digital 6s and one dis2 but I am unable to do so. I just am trying to maximize the output of the parts availabe to me at this time...

Thanks for the info folks!

Tried it once years ago on a 2nd gen with those coils and it didn't work. Spark was really weak, when boost would get high it would break up so bad it felt like an ignition rev limiter.

Why can't you run three boxes (two digital 6s and a DIS2)?

Allen, because it isn't my car and the extra $550 for the DIS2 is the issue... Not my choice.

I have done what you're suggesting, but I can see where the stock ignitor may be the cause of the issue Elliot. A coil is only going to work as well as the driver allows. If the stock driver is limiting the coil to a relatively low amp draw, it may never produce a good spark. Upgrading the driver may produce the results you're after and would be a lot less expensive than another CDI box.

MSD has an excellent forum. i have used it many times w great success. all you have to do is ask... the coil appears to work in conjunction w a particular driver and generally is used on hondas.

FWIW, i use 2 MSD 8253 coils on lead and 2 8207 coils on trail. the leads have 2 Jacobs FC3000 amps.

I am aware of the forum, and have been a member there for many years. But some of the rotary related questions the MSD techs give false answers to and I have corrected them more than once...

Got ya. I don't have any experience with it but i have been told by several people that the second gen coils and igniters are fairly stout and would be an upgrade over the FD setup. Just a thought

what's the reason for using two different set of msd coils? 8253 msd leading and the 8207 msd coils for trailing?

would it be wrong to put all 4 the same?

Any chance you'd be selling those two HVC-2 coils then, Gorilla RE?

i run amps on my leading plugs so the 8253 works really well. the 8207 works off just the OE mazda igniter. the leads of course do most of the work.

Quick question for the MSD guys, can a DIS-2 be used to drive stock FC trailing coils instead of the MSD 8207's? (For trailing ignition)

Could you run the MSD 6 digitals from the leading coil ignitors and then use an MSD coil?
Basically use the post-ignitor signal to trigger the MSD 6A (digital) which would then fire the right MSD coils?

Which ECU are you using? The MSD's require a rising edge signal, which you can get off the stock igniters. But if your ECU will output in rising edge it's that much simpler.
