Looking for suggestions/opinions on turbo
I think my upgraded twins are starting to go bye bye. I have had poor luck with these things from the start. Now they are starting to show signs of impending doom once again. I have tried very hard to keep from going single, but i do not think I have much choice anymore. I have therefor done some searching and have narrowed my turbo choices down to quite a few. All have some down falls but seem to be good choices for my application. What I am hoping to get out of this is what turbo will offer the best value (ie. the best performance all around with out beeing overly expesive to repair or get parts for.)
My specs are listed in my sig for you guys to use. Please be aware that I am a person that is very practical when it comes to my applications. I am not looking for the biggest Turbo. This car is a street driven car. The injectors will be left at 550/1200. The motor is in good health and has a street port. I want to get to around 400rwhp and run 93 octane gas. I want minimal lag. I am aware that my best choice is the gt35/40. My concern is about repair costs with this choice vs the other turbos on my list. How close are the other turbos to the gt35/40 and which are cheapest to upkeep.
I know alot of people will say that if I do not plan on running over 15 psi. then there is no need to go single. The problem is that I have a set of stock twins and there is a noticable difference in power between my upgraded twins and the stock ones. I just can't keep the bigger turbos from falling apart. Mine are not just bigger wheels on stock shafts either. They are the ones that turbonetics does with the t25 exhaust wheels and the super 60 compressor wheels. They flow great, they just don't last. Anyway, here are the turbos on my list. please feel free to comment on any of them.
1)gt35/40
2)apex rx6
3)xs to4s
4)xs to4e
4)garret to4e
5)garret 60-1
6)m2 bb twins (i know they are not single but I have to include them.)
If I missed any please feel free to add.
Mike
