Intercooler Sizing Question

I have a intercooler with a core size of 20x8.5x2, will this be large enough for 400whp, on a S4 TII with a large strretport and a standalone? 2.5" in and outlet. I got it for free and was wondering if it was useable.

Also, if not, what is the right size, and even better would be is their a formula to calculate the size intercooler you'd need depending on airflow in lbs and the tempurate outside and the air tempurature coming out of the turbo etc? Perhaps a chart?

Also are there any resources or lists or just anyone that knows what size intercoolers fit under an FC bumper? I'm going to be running an S5 front bumper with the grill / bottom cut out with a MS front lip on it.

If someone could help me out, it would be greatly appreciated, and would be a great resource to send people to next time the question was asked.

Pretty subjective question...

It would be *just* enough on a turbo that isn't out of (or approaching the top) its effciency range at the power level.

Is it bar and plate? From the thickness I'd guess not.

I'd say that its pushing the limits as far as minimum size goes at that power level without a little more info such as turbo, any AI being used, placement etc.

I wasn't planning on using AI but i might, i'm gonna' be running a 60-1 to do this and was advised it should be able to be done on pump gas.

I would consider something larger. Like stated before. It depends on your setup. With a large enough turbo, you could make 400whp with no intercooler.
On the other end of the spectrum, too large of an intercooler will produce extreme turbo lag.

I am no ways near an expert. There are some really knowledgable people here that have a lot of experience with custom setups. Maybe someone can chime in with specifics.

Ok, so i'm thinking maybe of getting something with a core size of 24x12x3, total length is 31", will that fit?
