I think I am Ready

Even targa cars only on hard semi-slicks or treated wet tyres kill OS-G gearboxes making something close to genuine ~450rwhp, I fully expect my OSG gearset will become a paperweight/clutch aligning tool for someone else at some point.
Now if you have terrible shocks, rubbish tyres and only hook up in 4th gear with "550" miniature ponies from a dynojet, the box will probably last a lot longer.

What trans upgrades or trans swap out there?

Doing a quick read on the CD009 it sounds like a good option. The cost is not bad for a new trans. If a low mileage option is a valuable I am guess that could be found a great price. The adapter you listed is on the pricey side. I am guess there are adaptor plates as well?
With the gearing of the CD009 would the ring and pinion need to be changed from stock to get a similar power band?

yes, you will need the FD 3.909 or change to a Ford 8.8 etc. for lower
there are some older 3.727 Mazda R&Ps out there, but they require adding a bushing to the pinion shaft to mate up with larger ID FD diff bushing.
You might try searching for those things or pm me on the side if it will help.
there are a few BMW DCT 7-spd options now, but they cost more and are more complex to integrate die to the electronics and software.
